High Achievers’ Assembly for the 2016 HSC year We had a lovely ceremony last Tuesday to celebrate the successes of last year’s HSC group. In front of very proud parents, staff, the current Year 12 and Director of Schools in Dural, Mr Tim McCallum, it was a pleasure to see 141 awards given to students for outstanding performances in the 2016 HSC. Enrolments Unsurprisingly, we have surpassed the 1600 mark in student enrolments. The two additional demountables, installed at the end of last year, are coming in very handy! NAPLAN changes I flagged with you last year changes to be made to NAPLAN testing for Year 9 students this year. It will be necessary for students to achieve at least a band 8 in numeracy and literacy (reading and writing) as a prerequisite to the attainment of the HSC in 2020. An information evening for Year 9 parents will be held on Wednesday March 8 at 6pm. Ms Jennifer Dane will be providing details on these changes and the strategies the school will be using to ensure that students have the best chance possible of attaining band 8 achievement. Parents and students need to know that there will be ample opportunity for students to acquire the relevant benchmark in future testing throughout the course of Year 10 and 11. Classroom renovations Finally, some of the new furniture for the classroom renovations, flagged with you last year, has arrived. The pictures of Ms Donna Rodgers’ room don’t do it justice but I can assure you these rooms are places of flexibility and comfort. Students love the 21st century aesthetic and the adaptability of the furniture to suit their learning needs each lesson.

Meet the Teacher Evening and Open Night and Days It was very satisfying to meet many of our new parents on Wednesday evening over a light dinner and informal conversation. It was a pleasure to assure parents that Year 7 have settled so well, enjoying the camp, adjusting very quickly to new routines and contributing to the warm spirit of this school. We open our doors again next Wednesday February 22 during the evening for Year 6 parents to tour the school and talk with some of our personnel. Year 6 students will join us on Tuesday February 21 and Wednesday February 22, during the day, to taste- test high school and enjoy an exploration of are-as that have not yet been experienced in primary schools.

Communication – so important Thank you to the P and C who keep us posted on a whole range of matters that are helpful to you in understanding more about the school. Our app is being used more regularly to keep the communication channels flowing – so please download this if you haven’t already - and our website is updated with important information. Vicki Brewer

Your P&C Executive

President: Ingrid Waite

Vice-Presidents: Anne-Maree Kinley

Trinity Quinn

Treasurer: Thomas Kunzler

Minutes Secretary: (currently vacant, please see notice be-low)

Communications Secretary: Kirrily Corradi

Executives: Elizabeth Madders

Carolyn Vanderklauw

Mary Van Goor

Tracey Garnett

Graham Rosolen

Ishan Galapathy

The P&C urgently needs a Minutes Secretary. What’s involved? Before the meeting email out a reminder, the last meetings minutes and the agenda

to the database.

You can complete this at your own convenience and work it into your own schedule!

At the meeting circulate the sign in sheet and note the apologies.

Great way to informally meet new parents!

After the meeting prepare and send out the Agenda & Minutes for each meeting (once

approved).

On most occasions the minutes can be typed during the meeting to lighten the load!

When are the meetings? We usually have one general meeting per term. The only time it will take more work is

when we have Executive meetings in between - but again this will only be 3 or 4 times per year, as most of our

Executive communications is done via email.

What if I can’t make it to a meeting? Never fear! The P&C committee are friendly and welcoming and understand that everyone’s lives are busy. We will

arrange for someone to take notes for you.

If this sounds like something you can help us with, we would love to hear from you.

Please contact Ingrid Waite at: [email protected]

We’ve had an incredibly busy start to 2017. Luckily, our staff and volunteers have been amazing,

coping with long lines of students, all desperate for an ice block or a cold drink. Thank you ladies!

There have been several requests for more vegan food in the canteen. Obviously, some of our existing

menu items already fit onto this category (salads, for example) but we are researching Vegan websites

for more ideas.

If you are interested in expanding the list of Vegan foods in the canteen please

give us a call. (9634 1188 during school hours). Any tried and true recipes

would be most appreciated– especially those suitable to freeze! Really, any idea

or suggestion would be great.

Some new items have been added recently to the canteen menu, CoCo Water is now available.

We stock ‘Foco Coconut Water’ which comes in three flavours - Plain, Lychee and Pome-

granate. The cost is $3. This is a very popular addition.

With the exceptionally hot summer we are experiencing , we have also reintroduced the Mount

Franklin Lightly Sparkling Water, both plain and flavoured - no added sugar a bargain at $2.50.

Lastly, if you use the (wonderful, convenient) Flexi

schools online ordering system, please remember to

update your class details. It really slows the whole

process down when lunches are put in the wrong year

box because an update has not been made. Thank you.
