November 7, 2019
Dear Parents,
Peace be with you! As we move into November, we continue to reflect on our call to discipleship. We are called to
love others who are less fortunate than we are. Luke 14: 12-14 tells us:
Then he said to the host who invited him, “When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends
or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you
have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;
blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the
resurrection of the righteous.”
During the month in which we celebrate Thanksgiving, we give special attention to collecting and donating to those
who are less materially fortunate than we are. Consider not only temporal ways to provide for the hunger of those
who are in need, but also spiritual nourishment through prayers for those whose physical needs we aim to address.
In addition, as we observe both All Saints Day and All Souls Day, we offer our prayers for all of our loved ones and
benefactors who have departed this world.
Once again, St. Gregory the Great Academy will coordinate the efforts of our families to provide emergency food
assistance as we approach Thanksgiving. Food will be collected and distributed to the St. Raphael-Holy Angels Food
Panty, Mount Carmel Guild, and to families in our own school community who are in need. Our food drive will begin
on November 7, 2019 and conclude on November 21, 2019. I am asking that every family participate in this effort
since discipleship it is our school-wide theme this year. Your family is asked to donate the actual food items
requested by according to the list below.
We will be collecting frozen turkeys again. If you earn a free turkey from a grocery store, such as Shop Rite, and
do not plan to use it, please collect the turkey and bring it to school.
Please note the following requested items by grade level:
Preschool – Yams Kindergarten – Canned Fruit Grade 1 – Turkey Gravy/Broth
Grade 2 – Rice Grade 3 – Cake Mix, Icing, Jello, Pudding Grade 4 – Boxed Stuffing
Grade 5 – Cranberry Sauce Grade 6 – Boxed Macaroni and Cheese Grade 7 – Peanut Butter, Jelly
Grade 8 – Canned Vegetables Faculty and Staff – Canned Pumpkin/Evaporated Milk
2
I encourage each family to use this food drive as a learning experience for your child(ren). While it might be time-
saving to simply take something out of the pantry one morning before school and slide it into the backpack or to
quickly order a scrip card, I encourage you to make time to discuss why we do what we do. Making a specific
connection to the Corporal Work of Mercy of the month, “Feed the Hungry and Give Drink to the Thirsty” should be
an enriching experience for each family. In our fast-paced world it is very easy to simply “do” things to get them
accomplished. Instead, let us use this time of the year to make a special effort to deliberately make our
Thanksgiving Drive a teachable experience.
May peace and every blessing be yours,
Jason C. Briggs, Ed.D.
Principal
PS: Once again, while I wish I did not need to include this caveat, I remind everyone to please avoid donating
expired, damaged, or opened food items as well as seriously dented, bulging, or rusted cans. When these damaged
items come in to school we must discard them as it is not appropriate to give damaged or spoiled food to those who
are most in need.

November 2019 Dear 8th Grade Parents, Believe it or not, it's time to begin the decision-making process for next year! A few of the area Catholic and private high schools have already come to the school to meet with our 8th grade students. They provided information on registration procedures and Open Houses. The public high schools, however, do not visit nor do they generally provide registration procedures to us. You will need to contact the public school directly to obtain that information. Kindly complete the bottom portion of this letter indicating that you give permission for the main office to release your child’s unofficial transcript when requested by the high school. I will also need this signature on file for the final release of records in June. If you are undecided or uncertain about which high school your child will attend next year, please list all the schools you are considering in order of preference. We ask that you kindly return the tear-off by 11/27/2019. Thank you for your cooperation and good luck during one of the most exciting times of your child’s academic career. May peace and every blessing be yours, Dr. Jason C. Briggs Principal -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BINGO WORKERS NEEDED!
Help is needed – please consider joining a Bingo Team!
Bingo is held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the
St. Gregory the Great Parish Center
All proceeds from the Tuesday and Thursday Bingo go directly to the Academy.
It is important that we have plenty of workers to help us staff this fund raiser.
We are in desperate need of Bingo Workers who can commit to working every month
or every other month.
Interested in helping?? There are THREE ways to join:
Option 1 - A monthly commitment on either Tuesday or Thursday Evening - you would
be assigned a team, etc 1st Tuesday – 2nd Tuesday etc. same for Thursday.
(4 points per night) - Bingo hours are 5:30 pm until 10:15 pm
Option 2 - A Bingo Buddy - You would only be required to work every other month.
You would share the yearly responsibility with your Bingo Buddy.
You still receive 4 points per night,
but, it is a 6 month not a 12 month commitment, but is a yearlong commitment.
Option 3 – Single Bingo Buddy – You would be required to work every other month.
You would commit to either working every even month of the year or every odd month
of the year. You would not be able to switch.
You still receive 4 points per night,
but, it is a 6 month not a 12 month commitment, but is a yearlong commitment.
Please keep in mind, Bingo is a 12 month commitment (either by yourself or with your
buddy) – if you miss 3 or more Bingos in a year, you will no longer be considered a
bingo worker. Working Bingo is NOT a “drop-in” volunteer service – no one is allowed to show up at any Bingo because they need a few extra points – you must be
assigned to a team. If you cannot work your scheduled Bingo night, it is important that you contact your MIC
to let him/her know why you cannot attend.
Please contact Mrs. Patty Pierson to sign up to work Bingo at
