7.2 Migrating Existing Data into Drillworks Pressbase Once you have setup Drillworks with Pressbase, you will need to import your projects from the binary file storage to Pressbase. This is the same procedure as importing any other project. First, make sure your stored project location is Pressbase and then import the projects. Note: Drillworks Pressbase Version 3.5 includes a unique well identifier attribute that allows wells to be shared in multiple projects without duplicating them. Prior to importing projects, you should ensure wells in your projects have the unique well identifier field populated. You can use an industry or company standard and enter these on the Well Properties General tab. Please see the Well Merge topic in the Drillworks Integrated Help system for more information. Contact Knowledge Systems’ support department for assistance as needed. Importing Projects from the Binary file From the Predict menu bar select Project > Import Step 1 - Specify Source Project Location 1. Verify the project location field displays the binary file location where your projects are

currently stored. a. For a default installation this will be:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\Drillworks12\Projects\ b. For tutorial projects this will be:

C:\Program Files\Drillworks12\Samples\ 2. If the project location field is blank or incorrect, Click Browse and select Drillworks

binary file data store as the type and Click Change to navigate to the stored project folder.

3. Click OK on the Add Data Store dialog. 4. On the Import a Project dialog select the projects to import. You may use Select All to

choose all projects displayed. 5. Click Next. Step 2 - Specify Import Options 6. The source project name and location is shown in the shaded fields. 7. By default, the system will retain the name of each imported project. You may change

the name. 8. Choose whether to “Merge system defaults with project defaults” and if conflict, whether

to favor system defaults. 9. Click Next if importing more than one project. Otherwise click Finish.

If you have duplicate wells in your database, Pressbase will prompt you which to select as the primary.

10. Your imported projects are now stored in the Pressbase database. To verify, select Project > Open from the Predict menu. The imported projects will be listed on the Open a Project dialog.

7.3 Setting up Drillworks Explorer When you launch Drillworks Explorer for the first time, you will need to tell Explorer the data store(s) to connect to and display. You will add your new Pressbase local data store and any Pressworks data stores using the Select Data Stores screen that appears. The process is similar to “To Connect to Pressbase” in Section 7.1. For more information, please see the “Drillworks Explorer Overview” topic in the Drillworks integrated Help system. If the Explorer default World map does not display, you can load the World Map.mxd file from the My Documents\Drillworks\Defaults\Map\World directory. If you have a prior installation and Drillworks 12 did not copy the updated Map folder and subfolders to your My Documents directory, you can copy the Map folder there from the C:\Program Files\Drillworks\DEFAULTS\Map directory. You can also change the default World map to a map of your region and add Shape files (*.shp) to your map such as blocks. Regional samples are available in the My Documents\Drillworks\Defaults\Map directory. For instructions, please see the Drillworks integrated Help system. You may also check with your IT department or Knowledge Systems for additional maps and Shape files.

8.0 Drillworks 12 Pressbase Backup Utility Drillworks 12 includes a database backup utility for Pressbase that provides users an easy way to backup and restore their local databases. After installing Drillworks 12, you may launch the utility by navigating to the Windows Start Menu Drillworks 12 folder and clicking the Database Backup Utility icon. Note: The local Drillworks Backup Utility uses Windows Authentication to connect to a local Pressbase database. If you do not have access to any of the local databases, then the drop down boxes next to “Database server” and “Database name” will be empty. In this case, please contact your systems administrator to grant access to the local database. With normal access to the database the dialog should look similar to this:

Page 27: Drillworks 12 Release Notes Table of Contents - Halliburtonesd.halliburton.com/ESD/software/Drilling/Drillworks/5000/Patch/... · Drillworks® 12 Release Notes 2 ... An OpenGL compatible

Where can backups be written in the file system? Microsoft SQL Server Express will need rights to backup the database to other folders outside the SQL Server Express default backup folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup (pictured above) including other hard drives and network drives. Backups written to the local file system are done with the identity “NETWORK SERVICES” by default (or whatever user SQL Server Express for Pressbase is running under if changed by an administrator). If the database is running under the default account, then there are places where it cannot write in the local file system – most notably any directory under: C:\Documents and Settings\ including the user’s home directory which can be confusing since the tool allows new directories to be created there (which are created with the user’s credentials). However, once you create a backup, you may copy the backup from the SQL Server folder to another location. Please contact your network administrator for network rights or assistance. See the Drillworks Help for more information on using the Pressbase Backup Utility. Note: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express is also provided on the Drillworks 12.0 Installation DVD. It can also be used for database backup and restoration, but generally requires SQL knowledge or introductory training prior to use. SQL Server Management Studio is an easy and efficient management tool that can be used to manage SQL Server Express and diagnose any problems. It is not required and can be installed at a later date. To install SQL Server Management Studio, navigate to the SQL Express folder on the Drillworks Installation DVD and double click on the SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi file.
