OUR STORYIn 1965 two Adelaide boys went on a big ol’ road trip across the USA. On their way, they sampled great fresh-cooked food in diners and rest stop cafes all over the country. One menu item in particular stood out with great potential for their home town: Pancakes. As soon as they got back, they opened a small pancake restaurant off Hindley Street in a hole-in-the-wall, former delicatessen. They started up with no menu, offering pancakes topped with anything they could think of. The good folks of Adelaide turned up in droves to devour the fluffy, American-style pancakes. Back then patrons collected their order from the kitchen, ate and then did their own dishes. Times have changed since then. Nowadays, our friendly staff will now serve you the food and even clean up afterwards as well.

The Original Pancake Kitchen has seen owners come and go, but the great pancakes have always been here: the recipe has never changed – and never will. April 2017, The Original Pancake Kitchen changed hands again. The new owners have direct links back to the US diners that inspired the founders. They’ve brought with them new ideas, an updated look and feel, and a whole new range of American inspired food. Based on family recipes tracing back to the Deep South of the USA, you’ve got to try our tender beef brisket, the smoky-sweet pulled-pork and of course, our favourite: Burgers.

The menu has seen some additions and everything we make is always available, and it’s been that way since 1965. We now have six different dining rooms, each with a unique ambience and we can cater for individuals, small groups and parties of up to 50 people, so think of us next time you’re getting a group together.

We trust you’ll enjoy the food and the time you share with us. We are proud to be a part of an Adelaide dining tradition and hope to be here for another 53 years and beyond.
