AS-interface does not compete with existing fieldbus systems in the market.AS-interface was developed observing the stringent guidelines of a heavy-duty,unshielded two-wire bus linking simple actuators and sensors in the lower field level.Connection of the local AS-interface lines to higher-level fieldbus systems takes placevia commercial gateways.

1.5 Simplest connection technology with contacting by insulation displacement

1.6 Transmission reliability of the AS-interface
• Each AS-interface telegram is monitored by the receiver regarding severalindependent variables.
• This monitoring ensures a high reliability regarding detection of single or multipleerrors.
• A telegram repeat takes < 167 µs and is included in the specified cycle time of 5 ms.
• AS-interfaces can be operated without problems even in heavily contaminatedenvironments (contamination through welding plants or frequency inverters).

2 SEW-EURODRIVE Products2.1 Concept for decentralized installation of drive systems
The original idea in the development of the AS-interface was mainly the optimizedconnection technology for flexible linking of single-bit sensors and actuators.
This original goal has turned into an ideal symbiosis of ingenious wiring and economicalcommunication system.
The new SEW-EURODRIVE concepts use these advantages and even go one stepfurther; drives for decentralized installation can now be integrated into the AS-interfacenetwork as "rotating" actuators.
Actuator-sensor interfaces represent an economical alternative to conventional binarycontrols, especially in conveyor applications designed on the operating principles ofdecentralized installation. The communcation functions of the AS-interface may oftensuffice because the demands usually placed on variability of the drive system are ratherlimited (such as selection of preset fixed setpoints or merely start and stop of the driveswith soft start). Installation is limited to connecting the "yellow" profile cable, whichenables signal transmission and the 24V and mains supply for the system. Power supplyis daisychained from drive to drive in the form of a "network bus." This installationstructure allows for a flexible and cost-effective solution using simple and prefabricatedpluggable connections.

• MOVIMOT® is a gearmotor with integrated digital frequency inverter in the powerrange from 0.37 to 3.0 kW and integrated brake management.
• The brake coil is used as braking resistor in motors with mechanical brake; aninternal braking resistor will be a standard component of MOVIMOT® units for motorswithout brake.

Overview MOVIMOT® MM..C-503-30 (with integrated AS-interface) is supplied with AVSK plugconnector (for AS-interface) if not specified otherwise in the order. The plug connectorslisted in the following table are preferred components. For other types, please contactSEW-EURODRIVE.
Terminal box design:
The modular terminal box offers the following functions compared to the standardterminal box:
• The position of the cable entries/plug connectors can later be turned to the oppositeside (see MOVIMOT® operating instructions).
• Integration of URM option (see Sec. Options)
Possible plug connector positions
Positions "X" or "2" are possible for plug connectors. The plug connectors are alwayslocated on one connection side. Combined plug connector positions are not possible.

2.4 MOVI-SWITCH® 2S with integrated AS-interface
• MOVI-SWITCH® 2S is a gearmotor with an integrated electronic on/off switch for twodirections of rotation and integrated thermistor-type motor protection.
• The direction of rotation is changed using a reversing relay combination with a longservice life.
• Supply system monitoring, phase-sequence monitoring, brake control as well asswitching and protection functions are implemented in the controller.
• The various operating states are indicated by the status LED.
• With the CK0 design (with integrated AS-interface), the connection assignment iscompatible to MOVIMOT® with integrated AS-interface.

Standard design MOVI-SWITCH® 2S is equipped with two plug connectors for AS-interface and digitalinputs as standard. The plug connectors are integrated in the control unit, see thefollowing figure.
