Commercial vehicle registrations in the UK grew 12.8% in 2013 to 330,976 units. They were led by an 14.7% increase in van and truck registrations.
Van registrations in 2013 grew 13.1% year-on-year (YoY) to 271,073 units.
There was a spike in truck registrations of 23% to 56,218 units due to the impending Euro 6 emissions regulations.
The cost of ownership is like to be higher after the regulations come into force.
Growth goes green..The bus and coach sector saw a 3.3% YoY decline in registrations in 2013. However, there has been growth over the last five months as operators are looking to invest in new fuel ecient and cleaner vehicles. The introduction of new Euro 6 trucks in 2014 would be of key interest to the heavy end of the market; the forthcoming launches of several new light commercial vans is expected to boost growth in the sector.
Best Seller….The Ford Transit was the best-selling van in 2013 with its green version Transit ECOnetic promising low CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.
