finance to small entrepreneurs but have shown

genuine concern for their progress and

development. They have now entered the

challenging field of promoting new small scale

entrepreneurs through entrepreneurship

development programme (EDP)

1.State Bank of India

2. Indian bank – Entrepreneurship service cell

The bank provides consultancy services topersons who graduate from colleges andinstitutions of engineering, technology etc, andunemployed engineer’s diploma holders andother graduates and business executives. Theconsultancy service is right from identificationof the project to its implementation andmarketing is provided through the personnel ofthe bank and expert panels.

3. Bank of India

Assistance in selection of industry, preparationand evaluation of project report and marketsurvey.

Practical training in the line if necessary.

Assistance in obtaining government clearance,procurement of machinery and equipment andmarketing of products.

Assistance and guidance in implementation ofproject.

4.United commercial Bank

The bank has a cell in its head office at Calcutta to providetechnical assistance and guidance to self employedpersons about feasibility of their projects. It also rendersthem advice in regard to sources and availability of rawmaterial and marketing of their products.

5. Punjab National bank

PNB Mahila Udyami Scheme : The women entrepreneurswill be assisted for setting up of new projects in tiny /smallscale sector and rehabilitation of viable sick SSI units.Existing tiny and small scale industrial units and serviceindustries undertaking expansion, modernizationtechnology up gradation & diversification can also beconsidered.

6.ORIENTAL BANK OF COMMERCE

Oriented Mahila Vikas Yojana- To meet Credit needs of WomenEntrepreneur. Women Entrepreneurs enterprise consisting of allunits managed by one or more in proprietary concerns or in whichshe/they individually or jointly have a share capital of not less than51% as partners/ shareholders/ directors of a private ltd.company/members of a co-operative society.

7.Bank of Baroda

Bank of Baroda offers financial assistance for professional, self-employed women and also those into retail trade and agricultural activities.

DISTRICT INDUSTRIES CENTRES (DICS)

The District Industries Centres (DICs) programme was startedon May 8, 1978 with a view to provide integratedadministrative framework at the district level for promotion ofsmall-scale industries in rural areas. The DICs are envisagedas a single window interacting agency with the entrepreneurat the district level. Services and support to smallentrepreneurs are provided under a single roof through theDICs.

The organizational structure of DICs consists of one GeneralManager, four functional Managers and three projectmanagers to provide technical service in the area relevant toneeds of district concerned. Management of the DICs is doneby the State Governments. The scheme has now beentransferred to the Government to the states for running theDICs.

FUNCTIONS OF DIC

Identification of Entrepreneurs- DIC develops newentrepreneurs by conducting entrepreneurialmotivation programmes throughout the districtespecially in panchayat Union Headquarters andsmall towns.

Selection of projects- DIC offers technical advice tonew entrepreneurs for the selection of projectssuitable to them.

Provisional registration under SSI - After the selectionof projects, entrepreneurs are issued with provisionalSSI registration which is essential for obtainingassistance from the financial institutions.

FUNCTIONS OF DIC

Purchase of fixed assets- DIC sponsors the loan applications toTIIC, SIDCO and banks for the purchase of land and buildings andsanctions marginal money under rural industry project loanscheme payable to other financial agencies for the purchase ofplant and machinery.

Clearances from various departments- It takes the initiative to getclearances from various departments and takes follow upmeasures to get speedy power connection.

Assistance to raw material supplies- It makes necessaryrecommendation to the concerned raw materials suppliers andissues the required certificates for the import of raw materials andmachinery wherever necessary.

FUNCTIONS OF DIC Assistance to village artisans and handicrafts- DIC arranges for

the financial assistance with the lead bank for nationalised banks of the respective areas.

Interest free sales tax loan- SSI units setup in rural areas can get IFST loan up to a maximum limit of 8% of total fixed assets from SIDCO but the sanction order from the same is be issued by DIC. The DIC also recommends the SSI units to NSIC for registration for govt. Purchase program.

Subsidy scheme - DIC assists SSI units and rural artisans to get subsidy such as power subsidy, interest subsidy for engineers, subsidy under IRDP, etc. from various institutions.

National Resource Centre for Women (NRCW) Anautonomous body set up under the National Commission forWomen Act, 1990 to orient and sensitize policy plannerstowards women’s issues, facilitating leadership training andcreating a national database in the field of women’sdevelopment.

Women’s India Trust (WIT) WIT is a charitable organizationestablished in 1968 to develop skills of women and to earn aregular income by providing training and employmentopportunities to the needy and unskilled women of allcommunities in and around Mumbai.

Women Development Corporation (WDC) WDCs were setup in 1986 to create sustained income generatingactivities for women to provide better employmentavenues for women so as to make them economicallyindependent and self- reliant.

Development of Women and Children in Urban Area(DWCUA) DWCUA was introduced in 1997 to organizethe urban poor among women in socio-economic self-employment activity groups with the dual objective ofproviding self-employment opportunities and socialstrength to them.

Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Karnataka (AWAKE)AWAKE was constituted by a team of women entrepreneursin Bangalore with a view to helping other women in differentways –to prepare project report, to secure finance, to chooseand use a product, to deal with bureaucratic hassles, totackle labour problems, etc.

Working Women’s Forum (WWF) WWF was founded inChennai for the development of poor working women torescue petty traders from the clutches of middlemen and tomake them confident entrepreneurs in their own right. Thebeneficiaries are fisher women, lace makers, beedi makingwomen, landless women, labourers and agarbathi workers.

Self- Help Group (SHG) An association of women, constitutedmainly for the purpose of uplifting the women belonging tothe Below Poverty Line (BPL) categories to the Above PovertyLine (APL) category. The major activities of the group areincome generation programmes, informal banking, credit,unions, health, nutritional programmes, etc.

Self- Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) SEWA is a tradeunion registered in 1972. It is an organization of poor self-employed women workers. SEWA’s main goals are toorganize women workers to obtain full employment and self-reliance.
