ORDER:

Based on the announcement made in the Budget 2006-A7, a Maternity BenefiiScheme was launched in the G.O first read above and the scheme was named as"Dr.Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme". The above scheme is beingimplernented from 15.9.2006. The scheme provides financial assistance of Rs.6000fto pregnant women frorn Below Poverty Line (BPL) families for the first two cleliveriesto compensate the wage loss during pregnancy and to ensure that the',, haveaccess to nutrit ional food so that t l ie incidence of low birth weight babies is, reiuceci.This amount of Rs.6000/- is given in two instalnrents of Rs.30001 eaci': i .e. f irstinstalment of Rs.3000/- is given at the seventh month of pregnancy and thg Secr.rncjinstalment of Rs.3000/- is given ai the time of deliver5r. 4. The Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine has stated that thecash assistance provided under the Dr.Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefi tScheme will continue to be given based on the recommendation of the Village HealthNurse and be restricted for two deliveries only. The assistance will be paid to allel igible women who del iver in Governmenti local body inst i tut ions, in threeinstalments on conditional basis as detailed below:

. The first instalment of Rs.4000/- will be given to every pregnant woman, whoavails all required health services during 7th rnonth of pregnancy.

. The second instalment of Rs.40001 will be given to the mother after deliveryin the GovernmenUlocal body institution.

. The third instalment of Rs.4000f will be given to the mother on cornpletion ofthird dose of DPT, Hepatitis-B and Polio / Penta valent vaccine for the child.5. The Director of Public Heatth and Preventive Medicine has further stated

that the Government of lndia plans to implement the Conditional Maternity BenefitScheme in the two districts of Cuddalore and Erode in 2011-12. Under this scheme,mothers will be given Rs.40004 in 3 instalments. 1't instalment Rs.15OOl-, 2ndInstalment Rs.1500/- and 3'o lnstalment Rs.1000/- respectively. This scheme isimplemented through the Integrated Child Developrnent Services (ICDS) programmeof the Social Welfare Department. The amount of Rs.4000 from ICDS will be usedfor the release of the 3'o Instalment for the beneficiaries in these two districts incoordination with the VHN/ ICDS staff. The other two instalments will be paicj underthe revised Dr.Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme.

6. The Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine has thereforerequested the Government to issue necessary orders for enhancing the maternitybenefit under Dr.Muthulakshmi Reddy Maternity Benefit Scheme from Rs.6,000/- toRs.12,000/- to the poor pregnant Women with a out lay of Rs.773.00 crores.

7. The Government after careful examination of the proposal of Director ofPublic Health and Preventive Medicine accept the same and accordingly issue thefollowing orders:

i. The Financial assistance given under the Dr.Muthulakshmi ReddyMaternity Benefit Scheme for the poor pi'egnant women is enhancedfrom Rs. 6,000/- to Rs. 12,0AU- (Rupees twelve thousand only) witheffect from 01 .06.2011.

ii. Sanction is accorded for a sum of Rs. 660 crores (Rupees Six hundredand sixty crores only) for implementation of the Dr.Muthulakshmi ReddyMaternity Benefit Scheme during the year 2011-12.
