Secondary retention devices that enclose and tether overhead
fixtures i.e.: flood lights, speakers, cctv cameras located
above personnel or important equipment.
The patented DROPSAFE® safety mesh covers are designed and
developed to reduce the risk of a DROPS situation.
Current used by world’s leading Offshore Drilling companies i.e.:
Transocean, Ensco, Noble, Seadrill, Rowan, Atwood,…………………
What is DROPSAFE®
DROPS situation– where an overhead fixture (e.g. light, speaker, camera) or
its components come loose and fall due to:
DROPSAFE® - DROPS Hazards
• Human Error
• Poor Maintenance
• Wear & Tear
• Fatigue
• Internal Corrosion
• External Corrosion
• Vibration
• Impact
Which can result in:
• Injury
• Death
• Damage to important equipment with potentially further serious consequences

DROPSAFE® secured a light guard after it came loose from its light
fixture located at height on an Ensco rig (offshore Australia)
During a routine inspection, a globe was discovered to have broken from
its fixture and Dropsafe safety net catching it. This could’ve been a bad
accident if it was not for the net securing the globe and prevented it
dropping from height.

DROPSAFE® retains light fixture components at height
after a crane boom collision on a Seadrill Rig
When the Platform crane was swinging in toward the platform to
pick up cement hoses off the BOP deck to transfer to the production
deck, one of the two crane boom lights on the tip of the boom
contacted the access ramp pennant wire and broke the plastic
shroud. The light had been fitted with safety netting the previous day
and prevented anything falling. All personnel were clear of the lift
and landing area during the operation.

DROPSAFE® prevented a 27 kg light assembly from
dropping at height on a Seadrill rig
An Electrician was replacing lamps under drill floor, when he
noticed one sodium light is lower than the rest. Upon inspection he found that it had broken off and was hanging in the safety net. It is
unlikely that any equipment damaged the light. Jarring operation
was conducted the previous day, which may have led to a lot of movement and eventually caused further damage had it not been for
the secondary retention safety net that prevented the fixture from
dropping.

Quote from QHSE Director, Sapura Kencana Drilling (former QHSE Director,
Seadrill) – Tim Marsh:
DROPSAFE® Effectiveness
“The introduction of the DROPSAFE Mesh Safety Cover has provided us
with a significantly improved safety tool for our Dropped Object Prevention
Program in our offshore workplaces. The provision of adequate secondary
retention of fixtures at height was a critical shortcoming in ours and in
many other offshore environments, a problem now only effectively
addressed through the innovation and introduction of this piece of safety
equipment.”
“This product has met our key requirements in that it allows a dramatic
improvement in the safety of our workplaces, it positively enhances our
Dropped Object Prevention Program and in doing so, contributes to our
overall safety performance, as measured by ourselves and more
significantly by our clients.”
DROPSAFE® Client Feedback
“My personal opinion is that the nets are an excellent product. They
certainly provide an excellent secondary retention system to the attached
lighting units, giving better overall coverage of the units themselves. They
appear to be very durable being stainless and we expect to get many years
of service from them. Time will tell.”
“In the event of either a dynamic or static drop I’m sure there is far less
likelihood that any part or the whole unit would fall beyond the perimeter
of the net. Again time will tell within the company. Overall a good product
and improvement.”
- TRANSOCEAN
DROPSAFE® Client Feedback
“The safety mesh is definitely an advancement on the safety slings as it
envelopes the entire flood light and even prevents the lens retainer from
falling if the clips failed, something that the safety slings cannot do. I
definitely approve of this extra precaution from preventing drops especially
on our main flood lights which this mesh has been supplied for. The only
drawback is that it is labour intensive when maintenance is been
performed but the safety side out ways this draw back tenfold.”

DROPSAFE® Client Feedback
“Dropsafe has allowed end users to install a needed fixture, such as an
overhead light or camera, with renewed confidence; previously it may not
have been done, due to concerns over potential dropped objects in a
particular area.”
“In over 30 years of oil industry experience I have witnessed countless
dropped objects from overhead. Development of Dropsafe has put the
focus on performance rather than worrying about our personnel working
under potential dropped objects. The key to Dropsafe's success is a full
retention system which covers all parts on a particular fixture which, for too
manyyears, has been inadequately secured with a single small sling.”
