IntroductionThe DS2PD performs the three primary CCTV system functions:-

High-quality video recording,Local display on Main and Spot MonitorsTelemetry control of Functional (PTZ) cameras.

All of these functions have been substantially enhanced and improved.

In addition to this, the DS2PD now incorporates NetVu Connected Technology which provides a wealth of new features including Video Transmission, Advanced Video Motion Detection, Alarm Zones provided to meet the growing demand for remote monitoring applications.

Even if Remote Monitoring is not currently a user-requirement, installing a DS2PD now enables it to be provided for the end-user with minimal disruption and cost when it does become one.

Improvements to the User InterfaceChanges to the operation of the DVR have been carefully kept to a minimum to maximize the feeling of continuity for existing DS2 and DS2A users and installers; this is despite the huge amount of extra features now provided.

Keyboard LayoutThe front-panel keyboard layout has been re-arranged to place the buttons into logical groups but the button functions and icons are identical to those on the existing product

The central area is for camera selection, the left area is playback and event viewing, and the right is display control (and menus access).

On-Screen DisplayA number of visible improvements have been included to keep the operator better informed of system status:-

A red dot next to the camera number indicates that the camera is currently being recorded.

Schedule e.g. Day, Night or Weekend is shown at bottom centre of Main screen.

Captions and/or Time & Date can be removed from Main and Spot monitors making more room for the picture. Also the text background can be turned off.

MenusThese have been carefully designed to be as similar as possible to the existing product to make the transition as comfortable as possible for majority of installers.

When in the User Menus, changes to Time and Date must now be confirmed before being accepted. This will prevent a common problem with existing DS2 where time settings were inadvertently changed by inexperienced users.

There are many more settings available, to exploit the added functionality, but these are often hidden behind ’Advanced’ buttons.

DS2PD FeaturesNetVu Connected TechnologyThe DS2PD is a founder member of the NetVu Connected family of products. Video information, either live or recorded, from a multitude of autonomous and widely separated, sub-systems can be brought together for central monitoring and control.NetVu Connected technology guarantees interoperability, multi-site viewing and full system control using NetVu ObserVer software which is provided free of charge with every DS2.

Video Transmission with Transcoding Capability High quality recording and simultaneous video transmission using MPEG4 or JPEG for remote Live viewing AND Playback.

The DS2PD has a unique TransCoding engine which can convert evidential quality recorded JPEG images into an MPEG4 data stream on playback. This is especially useful when playing back recordings over a bandwidth limited network connection.

MPEG4 is beneficial in remote monitoring applications over low-bandwidth data paths because it achieves higher levels of compression and hence faster update rates compared to JPEG.

MPEG4 compression takes advantage of the temporal redundancy, where portions of a picture remain unchanged over a period of time, which is present in many CCTV images.

In MPEG4 recording a full frame (I-Frame) is captured periodically, perhaps every 3 seconds. The intermediate frames (P-Frames) are examined and only the changes, with respect to the previous I-frame are encoded for storage or transmission.

MultiMode Recording

Multimode recording provides the ability to set different recording rates, resolutions and compression algorithms across scheduled, normal and alarm modes. It replaces Variable Record Rate and provides all users with access to the benefits of the NetVu Connected Transcoding Engine, not just those requiring Network access. Multimode Recording provides the following substantial benefits:-

Higher-Quality RecordingHigher Record Rate - More updates-per-secondNot Just Record the EventsBetter Coverage of an EventExtended Record Duration

IP Streaming & Recording

The DS2 is capable of the seamless recording & display of IP video streams alongside conventional analogue cameras, irrespective of the devices’ location. This can be achieved using NetVu Connected devices including EcoSense, SD Range, DS2, DV-IP Range, DS Server, BX2, DV-IP Encoders and selected (Analogue Resolution) IP Cameras and IP domes including selected cameras from Dedicated Micros CamVu Range

Instant Event Reporting (Dial-Out on Alarm)Events caused by alarm contacts, VMD or combinations of these (zones) can be reported immediately over a network. Previously a remotely-monitored CCTV system required the DS2 for local recording as well as a dedicated Video Transmitter to report alarms to a monitoring station.

The DS2PD provides these two major CCTV control functions, recording and transmission, in one box.

Alarm ZonesComprehensive alarm managements function. The complete ‘Alarms and Presets’ functionality of DS2 is retained.

In addition to this Alarm Zones allow combinations of alarm contacts, VMD activations etc. E.g. a zone can be programmed such that an external PIR must detect as well as VMD on a certain camera before activation is actually transmitted to an RVRC.

This can be used to give better alarm detection and false alarm rejection.

Improved Schedule with Holiday ProfilesThe DS2PD retains the Day, Night and Weekend schedule but now has a 7-day timer function and holiday profiles included.

Holiday profiles allow specific days in the calendar to be programmed as either set for 24 hours, unset for 24 hours or with an individual set and unset time for that day.

Up to 10 Holiday Profiles, i.e. specific set and unset times can be programmed and then these Profiles can be applied to one or more days in the calendar.

Enhanced Pre-Alarm RecordingPre-alarm event recording, using RAM – even if the DS2 is being used in ‘Event-only’ recording i.e. where cameras are not scheduled to be recorded at the time of the event.

Operating System and Configuration Data in FlashdiskA large proportion of the DS2 operating system is now held in flash memory rather than the same hard disk that is used for video recording.

In the unlikely event that a hard disk does fail then alarm events, VMD and system events such as video-loss events will still be reported to the Remote Video Receiving Centre. Only the recording function will be inoperative.

If the disk is changed for what ever reason, most unit configuration information will be retained in the unit and so only minimal reprogramming will be required.

DVD Writer as StandardA DVD writer is fitted as standard on all the models. This allows for all cameras during a selected time period to be archived. The DVD drive is compatible with CD-R and DVD-R media.

DuoVuDuoVu – Simultaneous Live images and playback in the same multiscreen view.

Page 9: DS2PD Installation and Programming Training ... - NetVu Ltd · NetVu Connected Technology The DS2PD is a founder member of the NetVu Connected family of products. Video information,

Advanced Video Motion DetectionImproved Video Motion Detection with fine control of active grids and greater level of sensitivity adjustment. Less false alarms – more reliable triggering. Also Alarms and VMD can be scheduled, camera by camera and by day, night, or weekend.

Timed ExpiryThis allows images to be held for a selected number of days before becoming automatically inaccessible. This simplifies the recording management function for the end-user as images should not be held for longer than necessary as specified by the Data Protection Act.

Enhanced Telemetry SupportThere are two independent RS485 Camera Telemetry Ports and coax control. Telemetry can be set on a camera-by-camera basis so that any camera can use either of two RS485 or three coax telemetry protocols. A number of new protocols have been added. Matrix support via RS232 is also provided.

Digital FingerprintingTo guarantee the integrity of copies of recordings for evidential purposes, the system generates a 16 byte digital fingerprint of the data contained within the video partition file. A certificate can be printed showing this fingerprint. Archive copies taken to CD/DVD or ftp can be fingerprinted to verify them as identical copies of the original data.

Improved Screen ControlAlarms and Activity events can be displayed on Main and Spot Monitors, in Full, Sequence or Multiscreen. When reviewing an incident in playback, an alarm or VMD events will not cause the Monitor to switch. The Picture-In-Picture inset can be positioned into any quadrant.

Retail Solutions FunctionThe DS2PD now has Retail Solutions text support as standard. It is no longer necessary to specify or stock specific /RS products. Full Retail Solution functionality is provided including Data Port assignment per camera, programmable data display time, keyword event trigger, text search and text filters.

Enhanced Archiving FunctionalityImages can now be continuously archived from the hard drive of the unit to an FTP server so that they would not be lost should the DVR be damaged or stolen during an incident.

Events such as alarms or VMD can be automatically added to an archive list. The listed events can be sent to CD/DVD at a scheduled time every day, on connection, at regular intervals in minutes, when the CD/DVD would be filled or under manual control. Events can also be sent to off-box storage using FTP.

Protection of Event RecordingsAlarm and VMD events can be automatically protected from being overwritten for a programmable number of days. This facility can be integrated with the archiving facility so that protection is automatically removed when a copy has been archived either to DVD or ftp and so making the hard disk space available for normal recording.

Page 10: DS2PD Installation and Programming Training ... - NetVu Ltd · NetVu Connected Technology The DS2PD is a founder member of the NetVu Connected family of products. Video information,

Event DatabaseThe event database holds information on external events such as alarm input activation, video motion detection triggers etc, as well as internal system events such as system starts, scheduled system settings etc.

The database can be searched easily either on the unit itself or from NetVu ObserVer.

Searches can be filtered by event type and time & date range.

It is possible to view information on when the database was started and how many entries are currently stored.

Keyswitch Set and UnsetA keyswitch input can be used to set the system into day and night modes. This allows a system to be set or unset locally by overriding the schedule.

The keyswitch is a latching type and can be connected to the direct, aux or alarm module inputs.

Automatic Notification of EventsAlarms, VMD, Camera Fail, System Start and Disk Full Events can be notified via email and SMS.

Configuration via Web PagesThe DS2PD can be programmed using either the On Screen Display menus or web-pages. Nearly everything that can be programmed via the web-pages can also be done using the OSD. (Some things are much more conveniently done via the web-pages – where lots of entering text is required for instance.)

Simple Software UpgradesEasy software upgrade with self-booting CD.

DS2PD uses software CODECS not hardware and so can be upgraded to take advantage of advances in video compression e.g MultiMode Recording as they are developed.

FirewallThe DS2PD has an integral firewall for higher security on the web. This can be configured to limit access only from known IP addresses and selected TCP and UDP ports. Up to 32 IP Address ranges can be specified to have remote access to the DS2. Ranges of allowed TCP and UDP ports can also be specified.

Easy Network ConfigurationA DHCP client is provided for incorporation into a Dynamic IP network. This can be used for auto configuration of IP Address, SubNet Mask, Gateway and DNS settings. Serial cable setup of IP address, as currently employed on DV-IP Server is not required.

Remote Wireless and Web ViewingRemote Viewing via PDAs and wireless laptops etc.is now possible.

Also a web-server is now incorporated to allow an end-user to send regularly-updated images from selected CCTV system cameras to their web-site via ftp, (e.g. Web-site application)

Improved RAID and JBOD SupportRaids and JBOD disks are now shown as individual drives in Disk Configuration. Raid Capacity is now up to 10TB. Existing products support up to 2.4TB

Advanced AlarmsThe DS2PD now has advanced alarm features such as tamper proof alarms and nuisance/stuck detector management. These have been incorporated for compliance with BS8418, to reduce false triggers and add system reliability and security.

Primary and secondary communication paths are supported.

Entry and Exit Zones and timers can be configured.

Setting and unsetting of alarms and VMD can be done using the internal scheduler, external key switch and remotely from an authorized RVRC

Internal PSUThe DS2PD comes with an internal PSU for neater installation particularly when the unit is to be rack-mounted.

Audio Challenge CapabilityBidirectional audio recording and network transmission for audio challenge is incorporated as standard. The audio channels are not associated with any particular video inputs. Audio input is line level 1V pk-pk with input impedance of 47kohms and so a microphone pre-amplifier is required.

Both local and remote audio can be recorded and this is synchronized (lip-synced) with the video recording.

Improved Configuration ManagementUnit configurations can be stored and up/downloaded. Most settings are held in sfm files which can be up and downloaded to and from the unit using standard ftp client software. Default.sfm is the factory default and master.sfm holds the current unit configuration. Units can be reset to a site-specific default configuration by installing a custom default.sfm file.

Java Based SDKA Java based software development kit is available which allows selected third parties to quickly develop to highly functional applications for system integration. NetVu ObserVer was developed using the SDK.

The use of a popular development environment such as Java ensures wide availability of experienced software developers.

New Telemetry KeyboardA new, more rugged, yet aesthetic keyboard (The KBS3A) is now available.

The joystick is contactless, using moving magnets which never wear out rather than wiping contacts which do under heavy use. The keys have transparent caps over the buttons so that high wear does not cause legend to be rubbed off.

3-Year Warranty on the unit AND the disk3-Year warranty on unit AND disk.

Notes on Standard Recording

1. Units can be set to either Pictures per seconds (PPS) or milliseconds (mS) between picture updates

It is recommended to use PPS for ease of understanding. Use of mS does allow the setting of record rates of less than 1PPS.

(e.g. 2000mS = 2 seconds between updates =0.5PPS) which is useful for Variable Rate Recording.

2. Standard Recording is always across all cameras. For example if there are 12 cameras connected to the DS2 and the rerecord rate is set to 6PPS.

3. If certain cameras are not to be recorded at certain times of the schedule, edit the Record Cameras lists.

4. The Maximum Record Time shown here is calculated on the Standard Record rate only. If VMD or events are to be recorded we don’t know how much activity there is going to be.

5. Maximum Storage (Protected %) Shows total disk size and brackets show how much of it is protected.

6. Earliest unprotected recording is useful to installers to enable them to review disk usage and allow them to match settings to customer requirements.

MultiMode RecordingMultimode recording is the ability to set different recording rates, resolutions and compression algorithms (MPEG4 or JPEG) across scheduled, normal and alarm modes.

Multimode is the new Variable Record Rate and much more. Multimode is unique in the marketplace today and provides all users to have access to the benefits of the NetVu Connected Transcoding Engine, not just those requiring Network access.

Key benefits include:

• Increased flexibility in how recording is carried out

• Increased recorded picture quality

• Increased picture update rates without corresponding increase in disk utilisation.

• Improves on Event only recording by providing continuous background recording at low bit rates.

• Extended record duration for a given disk size.

• Improved utilisation of 100pps record rate units, by providing more updates per second at low bit rates.

Setting Up MultiMode RecordingMultiMode Recording allows up to 24 recording profiles to be programmed.

12 of the profile are based on JPEG compression, 12 on MPEG4.

Each JPEG profile specifies an image resolution code (Low, Medium or High) and a Record Rate in Pictures per Second.

Each MPEG profile specifies an image resolution (4CIF, 2CIF, CIF or QCIF), Quality Level or Bitrate, Record Rate, and I-Frame Interval.

MultiMode Recording Applications

1) Dynamic Profile Switching on EventA static camera scene which normally has little movement is considered ideal for MPEG4 recording as this will use a minimum of storage space for recording. When movement is detected, the update rate and quality level can hence be increased to give better coverage of an event but with lower overall levels of disk usage.

Set up the camera for CIF resolution, using MPEG compression at a low bitrate (48kilobits per second and 1 picture per second update).

This is set on the Camera Profiles Selector screen, which allows the normal and event profiles to be configured for each individual camera on the unit.

Page 22: DS2PD Installation and Programming Training ... - NetVu Ltd · NetVu Connected Technology The DS2PD is a founder member of the NetVu Connected family of products. Video information,

Select the camera that is to be configured by pressing the corresponding camera button.

Moving the cursor to a profile and pressing will allow the settings for that profile to be changed

Note that this setting provides more than double the normal background update rate but it is only using approximately half the amount of storage.

Trigger an event either by setting up activity detection or the panic button on the keyboard.

This will change the recording to a higher, evidential, image quality and update rate to get a better record of the event. (2CIF resolution, JPEG at 25Kilobytes per image and 5 pictures per second).

Use the Event list to play the event back. See how the recording quality and update rate switched from the high evidential quality to still very useable information-grade images at the end of the event. This is using much less disk space so we can capture more detail or more pictures or both during the actual event and still store images for longer (depending on the number of events of course).

2) Best QualitySet up a camera to be recorded at a high quality and update rate. Record at 2CIF resolution, MPEG4 at a data rate of 1024 kilobits per second, an update rate of 15 pictures per second and an I-frame interval is 1 second.). Playback from the camera will show the capability of Multimode recording to produce very high quality recorded images.

Selecting ProfilesNote: It is recommended when configuring the record settings to use Standard Recording or Multi Mode but not a combination or the two.

Standard Recording will divide the record settings across all inputs selected for recording; Multi Mode allows the record settings for each camera to be individually configured.

Once all the profiles have been setup, the individual cameras can have those settings applied to them. Click Camera Setup and Record Profiles .

Each Camera can be setup to use different recording modes depending on the schedule. Select Standard or Profile for each of the Day, Night and Weekend portions of the schedule.

The first camera mode can be copied across all cameras. Press the Down icon to copy the mode to all cameras in the list.

With Profile selected, choose the profile to be used.

Click the edit button to select the profiles. The Profile Selector window will open.

Any time-period previously designated as using Profile Recording will have a drop-down box to enable the selection of the configured profile. All of the Profile MPEG and Profile JPEG options will be listed in this drop-down. Click on the Save button to apply these settings.

MPEG4 Profile Name is a user defined description that identifies a particular set of parameters.

MPEG4 Bitrates (Kb/sec) designates the rate at which data will be transferred or recorded.

MPEG Quality defines whether the bandwidth allocation will be a set figure (Constant Bit Rate) or will fluctuate depending on the quality of the image being recorded. Select a suitable level of detail from the drop down list. If a setting other than CBR is used, the bit rate column is not available. Use a constant bit rate to accurately predict hard drive capacity.

MPEG4 Framerate (pps) sets the number of frames recorded per second.

MPEG4 sec between I-Frames determines the frequency of individual I-Frames. MPEG compression technology uses Index frames (I-Frames) as reference images, and then records the differences between the subsequent images. This cuts down on the amount of data stored.

Using the Profile WizardTo simplify the setting of MultiMode Recording profiles, a Profile Wizard is provided.

Note: Ensure cameras have been selected for profile recording as detailed above.

To start the Profile Wizard select Cameras -> Profile Wizard.

To use this, enter how many days recording to be stored before the system starts overwriting and how the images are to be compressed, MPEG or JPEG.

Input an estimate of the number of events that will be recorded during an hour in standard recording mode.

Then specify the quality level that each camera is to be recorded at, normal or high, and the record rate, slow, medium or fast, using the drop-down boxes.

Settings can be copied from one camera to another using the drop-down menu. Alternatively, individual settings can be added for each camera.

Enhanced Pre-Alarm RecordingIt is possible to record Pre Alarm pictures and specify the Pre-Trigger rate and Pre-trigger Time.

The Pre-Trigger images will be saved as JPEG at the same resolution as the Event images.

Plug and Play ConfigurationIf no changes are made to the standard configuration, the unit will still ‘Plug and Play’ at 2CIF resolution, JPEG Normal and Event recording at 6pps across all cameras, using Standard Recording.

Alarm InputsAlarm inputs can be from contacts, PIRs, Beams etc and these can be used in two ways, General Contacts or inputs for ‘Alarms and Presets’.

The Alarms and Presets facilities operate in an identical manner to the DS2A. Up to 8 alarm inputs can be associated with each camera, each input driving the camera to a different preset position. Hence up to 128 alarm inputs can be connected, (16 cameras x 8 presets each).

In order for Alarms to respond, ensure that Alarms and Presets, Zone Input is Enabled.

Alternatively, alarm inputs can be configured as General contacts and the DS2PD can accommodate 32 of these in total.

Alarm devices can be connected to the unit itself (Aux 1 to 16 on Aux Alarms 25 D connector), to the Direct terminal connector (normally used for key switch setting and unsetting) and to CIO1 modules via the 485-bus network.

Note that Aux alarm inputs 18, 19 & 20 are reserved and should not be used as General Contact inputs.

Page 30: DS2PD Installation and Programming Training ... - NetVu Ltd · NetVu Connected Technology The DS2PD is a founder member of the NetVu Connected family of products. Video information,

Typical applications for Zone Alarms might be:-

a) Two detectors are used to protect the area covered by one camera. If Detector 1 OR Detector 2 sense motion then this must cause an activation.

b) PIR detector 1 AND VMD on Camera 1 must sense motion (i.e. double-knock) before an activation is triggered. This can give greater control and false-alarm rejection.

Cameras with more than two DetectorsFor applications where more than two detectors are associated with a particular camera then this can be accommodated using the Alarms and Presets facility. Up to 8 detection devices can be associated with a particular camera. Each detector can cause the camera to be sent to a different preset position. The inputs are logically combined (ORed) to produce one ‘virtual’ contact which can be used as an input to a Zone. This is done by using the ‘Presets Camera N’ as the Zone Alarm Input.

Note however that any one of 8 detectors could actually cause the Zone Alarm input to be triggered and hence this may not be fully compliant with the BS8418 standard because it is not possible to identify which detector actually caused the activation.

Zone Alarm Example – Alarm Contact AND VMD ‘Double-Knock’Zone 1 is to be programmed so that during the night only, Alarm Input 1 AND VMD on Camera 1 must trigger to cause an activation which is to be reported to an RVRC. Standard recording is in use and this is to be increased to the Event rate on activation. Recorded images of the event are to be protected for 7 days automatically.

It is possible here to select what kinds of events are to be reported to the RVRC. In this example we are reporting Alarm Events, Video Loss (Camfail) as well as System Startups (this is useful to report power failure or other disruption that may have occurred at the DS2).

Reporting Alarm Zones to RVRC

Alarm Zones are the preferred method of reporting Alarms to RVRC.

The Connect/Dial on Alarm box in the Alarm Zone Actions list should be checked to enable alarm reporting of this alarm.

Using Alarm Zones allows the use of combining detector activation to provide self-confirming alarms only to be reported to RVRC. Also Alarm Zones can be individually programmed to be enabled during the day, Night or Weekend Schedule or 24 Hours (e.g. a Personal Attack Alarm) as required.

DS2 Alarm Reporting and RVRC Data RequirementsWhen a DS2 reports an event, it first PINGs the host (RVRC). If it receives a reply then the DS2 will pass the event message to the host via a telnet message.

Hence for Alarms to be received correctly by an RVRC is it usual for it to reply to PINGs and for it to receive event notifications via telnet, usually via Port 23.

The requirement for a PING request can be disabled by clearing the ARC Ping check box.

ARC Multi-ping allows the use of ISDN Routers which may be used communicate events using Point-to-Point protocol (PPP). It has been found that some devices can enter a standby mode from which they need to be woken in order to pass alarms and other events. Setting ARC Multi-ping to on will do this automatically.

Advanced Alarm SettingsIn line with BS8418 compliance, the DS2 can be set to monitor the health of its own alarm inputs. This facility needs to be enabled by checking the Advanced Alarm features box on the on the Advanced Features page as shown above.

EOL monitoring allows the detection of open or short-circuit cables and this is achieved by incorporating resistors around the alarm contact itself.

Nuisance Count is designed to detect when an alarm input is giving repeated false activations.

When an alarm is received on the unit it will store the alarm time and will monitor the number of times the same detector is triggered within an hour period. If the detector is triggered the number of times that has been set for the nuisance count then the unit will de-activate this detector from triggering an alarm on the system for an hour. The unit will continue to monitor the detector and check how many times it is triggered during this hour, if it is triggered the same number at the nuisance counter it will remain de-activated for another hour, this will continue until the trigger value goes below the nuisance count setting.

Stuck Timer is designed to detect when alarm device remains in an active state for a prolonged period, indicating device failure. If any of the alarms/detectors are active for a period longer than specified then these will automatically be omitted. This time period is set in minutes.

Indication RelaysWith Advanced Alarm features turned on then Output relays 4, 5 and 6 ( available on the AUX RELAYS connector on the DS2) can be used give an external indication to the set state of the system and notification of signal failure if required.

NetVu ObserVer Alarm ReportingAlarm events, video motion activation, camera-fails and other system events can now be reported to an Alarm Receiving Centre using NetVu ObserVer.

A NetVu Event Distribution Point must be running in the subnet in which the NetVu ObserVer resides.

For a NetVu ObserVer client to respond to alarms from the Event Distribution Point it is necessary to configure it to respond to alarms.

NetVu Connected devices’ alarms are sent into the Event Distribution Point and then this will ‘distribute’ them out to NetVu ObserVer clients. If more than one NetVu ObserVer is running in the network and set to ‘Listen for Remote Events’ then new events will be sent to the ObserVer with the longest idle time. If another alarm is received from a site which is already being handled by a NetVu ObserVer, subsequent alarms will be directed to the same ObserVer client

An alarm event will maximise a minimised NetVu ObserVer window. It will also bring a NetVu ObserVer window to the front if at the back.

Sounding Alarms in NetVu ObserVerA site-specific sound to alert the operator of an event can be programmed. To incorporate this facility, obtain the required wav file (which must be in PCM format). Copy this file to the site folder of the respective site. Rename the file alsite.wav . This sound will now play whenever an event is received from the corresponding site.

Configuring the Internal FirewallThe internal firewall is configured in Network, Firewall Options.

The internal firewall can be used to limit access into the unit to only pre-defined addresses or ranges of addresses. Up to 32 addresses/address ranges can be specified.

Also up to 32 allowable TCP and UDP port ranges can also be specified.

Initially all 32 firewall entries are set with a network address of 0.0.0.0 and subnet mask set of 255.255.255.255 and this allows access from all IP addresses. To limit access to only a known group of IP addresses set the network address and subnet mask accordingly.

Very Important – Ensure that the IP address of PC being used to configure the DS2 and the TCP ports required for configuration ( 21, 23 and 80 AT LEAST) are allowed , otherwise the firewall will prevent access to the DS2, making further adjustment impossible.

ExamplesTo limit access to the DS2 to all workstations in the range 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255, set the following:-IP entry 01 address 192.168.0.0IP entry 01 subnet 255.255.255.0

To limit access to the DS2 to all workstations in the range 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.15, set the following:-IP entry 01 address 192.168.0.0IP entry 01 subnet 255.255.255.240

To limit access to the DS2 to a specific IP address, say 192.168.0.16, set the following:-IP entry 01 address 192.168.0.16IP entry 01 subnet 255.255.255.255

The DHCP ClientThe DS2PD has an in-built DHCP Client. This allows the DS2 to be used in a network with a DHCP server (i.e. dynamic IP). It can also be used to simplify and automate the network setting of the DHCP. To use this do the following:-

Enable DHCP and restart the DS2. This will set IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway. It will also set DNS addresses (some pages can use domain names e.g. Alarm Reporting Primary Host)

Once the settings have been obtained, disable the DHCP client and the settings will then become static. Static IP is preferred, particularly where remote-access or dial-out on alarm is required.

Maintenance tasksRestarting the DS2PDThe DS2PD can be restarted without powering down. This can be achieved by entering the User or Installer Menu

Go to System Shutdown and select ‘Enabled’.

When the pop-up menu appears, press and hold button 4 for approximately five seconds.

The unit will now restart after a short delay.

Engineering Bootloader ModeThis is a mode that is sometimes used for various engineering operations. Whenever a master.sfm configuration file is being uploaded the unit should be in Engineering bootloader mode.

Starting Engineering Bootloader Mode from the DS2PD Front PanelOn the Time, Date & Language page of the menus, go to System Shutdown and select ‘Enabled’.

When the pop-up menu appears, press and hold button 2 for approximately five seconds.

Message ‘Please wait. Unit resetting to bootloader.’ will appear.

The unit will then reboot and enter Engineering bootloader mode.

Starting Engineering Bootloader Mode remotelyConnect to the unit using telnet as follows:-

Enter reset

The unit will now restart after a short delay.

Upgrading DS2PD SoftwareThe DS2PD software can be upgraded in one of two ways, either using an Upgrade CD or by ftp of software files and then unzipping them on the unit.

The upgrade files together with relevant upgrade instructions are available from the Dedicated Micros website at http://www.dedicatedmicros.com/extranet/support/dmsoftware.html

FTP of configuration files to DS2PDConfigurations can be stored and up/downloaded to the DS2PD. Configurations are stored in .sfm files which can be up and downloaded using standard ftp client software.

Default.sfm is the factory default and master.sfm holds the current unit configuration.

An FTP client can be used to upload and download these files to a remote PC to hold as backups or to configure multiple machines with similar configuration settings.

Important: When uploading a configuration file (master.sfm) to a DS2 it is necessary to have the unit in Engineering Bootloader mode in order for the file to be accepted correctly. See the previous section on how to do this.

The unit will come out Engineering Bootloader mode after approximately 15 minutes or it can be taken out immediately by entering reset at the telnet prompt.

When the unit does reset it will be configured with the new values from master.sfm

Site-Specific DefaultsAnother important use of the configuration file facility is to provide unit or site-specific default settings which can be returned to by the installer in case of accidental or deliberate corruption of the unit settings.

This is achieved by taking a copy of a working master.sfm file and renaming it as default.sfm. This new version of default.sfm is then placed in the \FRM_DATA folder of the unit.

Now whenever the unit is put back to ‘factory defaults’ the settings will in fact be the specific settings from the ‘known-good’ configuration.

Installing Site-Specific DefaultsUsing a suitable FTP client take a copy of the master.sfm file from the DS2 and save it in a folder on the remote PC.

Copy this file and rename it default.sfm.

Upload it using FTP to the unit, placing it in the \FRM_DATA folder.

Edit any setting, say altering variable rate recording.

Then put the setting back to factory defaults.

This is done on the DS2 by pressing the ‘Recycle’ button.

On the DS2 use the OSD menus to select System Options, Factory Defaults, Reset

Check that the setting has indeed gone to the site-specific default and not the original factory default value.

What does the DS2PD not do?The list below gives the features and functions that are not currently supported. Some of these are to be incorporated in future software upgrades. For further details refer to the Product Release document.

TAD 3 Telemetry Interfaces for DTMF-based receivers, as used in DVST-based systems are not supported. It is very unlikely that these will be supported in the future.

DM Network Viewer, PC Playback and Remote Admin programs are not compatible with the DS2PD and have been replaced by new NetVu Connected software application. Software upgrades are available for previous generations of DS2 units which provide to allow them to interoperate in a NetVu Connected network. The level of functionality provided will be dependent upon the version of DS2 product.

Aux Alarm Inputs 18, 19 & 20 cannot be used although the configuration screens allow them to be entered into zones.

Only one Relay Output Module (CIO2) can be connected to the 485BUS. Relay outputs are therefore limited to 22 in total (6 on the unit itself and 16 on the CIO2 module).
