This is a good activity to get the students thinking about different parts of their life. It is good practice for speaking in front of the group, asking questions, and encouraging discussion

MATERIALS:

stack of post-it notes1 large sheet of papermarkers

LARGE ACTIVITIES

BENEFITS

PEAKS & VALLEYS TIMELINE

SMALL ACTIVITIES

MOVIE SET

INSTRUCTIONS

BENEFITS

A listening and speaking activity that gets the group to be creative and build off each other’s ideas.

Create roles for everyone that might appear on a movie set (director, producer, sound person, camera person). Have a cycle set up so everybody get to play every role. Film one person’s story, and then rotate.

Gives everybody something to do, allowing you to focus on helping the student being filmed instead of trying to keep track of everybody else. Downplays the role of being filmed, which can be intimidating for many students.

ICEBREAKERS

INSTRUCTIONS

BENEFITS

IMPOSSIBLE KNOT

Have everyone stand in a tight circle. Everyone must grab a hand from two different people.Untangle the messy knot without letting go of anybody’s hand.

An engaging activity for getting a group loosened up and focused or for re-energizing a tired group.

This icebreaker gets everybody involved. It cannot be completed without collaboration or delegation. It also gets everybody out of their chairs and moving around.
