GUEST LECTURES HELD IN DSPRS

1. How To Make A CV

A guest lecture by Shri Gurinder Ghotra, GMAT-AcademicHead, TIME Education Pvt. Ltd., on “Making CurriculumVitae” was delivered on February 7th, 2017, for the studentsof B.Com (H) IInd semester.

He initiated his lecture session with a general overview ofhow the HR department of a company sees a CV. There are alot of applicants but the number of vacancies is very low andthey review the applications only in a matter of 7 seconds. That is the only time to grasp his/her attention. Moreover, ifthe CV is of more pages, the concerned person does not readit. So it must be of one page. Our CV reflects our individuality,so we have to make it the way we want to represent ourselvesto get selected. He also advised on the importance of thecovering letter.

A CV can be written in an effective manner by ensuring thefollowing:

Firstly, name, mobile number, and email. Email can be areason of opportunity to lose or win. If it is [email protected] then it is a threat, you can lose, but if itlooks official and meaningful it can be a plus point [email protected]. But such email id’s are not easy toget hold of so one can start adding numbers to them. Andinstead of using just numbers, one can use dates which areimportant to us, like the date of joining the college or any ofyour achievement. Address is not mandatory because muchof the communication is through email.

2. Shaping the Career: A Holistic Perspective

The present generation is muddled about the career they wishto pursue and their ambition in life. Thus a lecture wasconducted on “Shaping the Career: A Holistic Perspective”.Shri Subhash Jatoga, CEO, Global Business Solutions gavethe guest lecture on February 14th, 2017 to IVth semesterstudents of BBA. His main focus was to generate awarenessamongst the students about various opportunities availablein the corporate sector and to guide them on realistic careerpath. He further highlighted that career choice is not onlyshaped by their skills and economic factors, but also by theirperception of host environment and practical challenges.
