ORGANIC SHAPES The designers were focused on the new plastics becausethis exciting material held the promise of being able to do more with less. They realized that plastic could be molded into organic shapes that would conform to the shape of the body.
EXPERIMENTS The Eameses adapted molding techniques developed during World War II to produce the shells. They also perfected another techniquewith which they had been experimenting—creating a bent, welded wire base.

Charles and Ray achieved their monumental success by approaching each project the same way:
Does it interest and intrigue us?
Can we make it better?
Will we have “serious fun” doing it?
They loved their work, which was a combination of art and science, design and architecture, processand product, style and function.
