Student Testimonial
Lầu Quế HảoDiploma in Hospitality Management 2008Advanced Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management 2009School D’Hospitality, Singapore
First of all, I would like to say that it was a great honor to be asked to write this testimonial for School D’ Hospitality (SD’H). I started my course at Diploma in Hospitality Management at SD’H, I met a lot of new friends there. Having friends from many different countries is such a joy and a great experience. In school, I learned about useful knowledge and they also help me a lot to my current job, even that there has provided a great opportunity to practice my English. My current job is as a Sales Executive in Windsor Plaza Hotel. All the lecturers and staffs are kind, enthusiasm and always ready to support students all the time. By the way, I just want to say a big thank to all you guys in SD’H.
Student Testimonial
Jason Nguyen Viet ThangDiploma in Hospitality graduate in 2011I had a wonderful experience at SD'H with supports of our experience lecturers and administrators. Throughout the period of study at SD'H, i was confidently equipped myself with presentation skills, service practical skills, teamwork skills, and computer literacy skills in Microsoft Words and Power point. There is one thing I would say that, the lessons in class are well-prepared before hand by our experienced lecturer. They are knowledgeable not only about our industry but also other related industries which helped us to understand deeply on our lesson. Our lecturers were also very friendly and helpful. They used to ask many question at the end of the lessons to make sure there were something left in our head before going home. In case of any further question or doubts about our projects, they were always there for us up to 7pm. However, not only our lecturers are helpful and supportive, but also the school administrators were. They were willingly to help us whenever we needed helps on our study or our application processes.
The school facilities are great to support our study. Our clean and bright classrooms are equipped with latest projectors and air-conditions, new tables and chairs, carpet etc. CCTV is also equipped to prevent cheating during examination. During our practical lesson, the school also fully provides us with fine-dining tables and chairs, various types of cutlery, linens, uniforms to make it more reality. Those facility are to support us in study, the school also rent a wonderful gymnasium and pool for us to train our physical.
In order to building a strong cohesion among foreigner and local students, the school also provides opportunity for us to go for excursion as a whole class or school. This helped us in understanding one another culture and enhancing our teamwork in project and presentation.
Internship Experience
Jason Nguyen Viet ThangDiploma in Hospitality graduate in 2011
Hilton Hotel Singapore, Room Service Department
School D' Hospitality has provided me a great experience at Hilton hotel and I’ve been offered an full-time employment. After my 6 months internship at Hilton Hotel, I have realised that both practical and theory knowledge we have got from school are helpful. For work wise, 6 months internship was not just passing the time, but to apply what you have learned in school into the “on-job-training". It also is to test your interest in this service industry and passion for this industry.
I was assigned in Room Service Department. I believed that everyone would think that was good for me, such an easy-life in Room Service. However, it was not true. My morning shift duty was to ensure the lift-landing area on the floors are full, set up General Manager meeting room, in-room breakfast service, clear trays and trolleys of the previous dinner serving. Collecting VIP list from Executive Floor, prepare and deliver VIP amenities, handover to afternoon shift. My afternoon shift duty was to help the morning shift in delivering VIP amenities and serve lunch, ensure the floor are full of fruits at the lift-landing area, collect and deliver Executive Floor 's dinner food items, serve in-room dinner and walk to all the floor and do clearing of dinner trays and trolleys before handing over to mid-night shift.
The most challenging in Room Service was whenever the order came. There were plenty of works need to be done from setting up the trolleys or trays to knock on the guest's door and service must be within 25-30 minutes.
All experience I have got in the past 6months are not only by self-learning, but also from the sincere teaching and guidance from my senior colleagues and management in the first few months.
