Dual Cell HSDPA (DC-HSDPA)
HSPA on top of WCDMA networks has been a true success story around the globe. Meanwhile all WCDMA networks have been upgraded to support at least HSDPA operation. urther!ore a
nu!ber of enhance!ents known as HSPA" features have been added in #$PP %eleases & up to '(. )he ai! is to increase peak data rates* to i!prove spectral efficiency and to reduce
latency in the syste!. +ne of the features added in #$PP %elease & is DC,HSDPA* i.e. the operation of two ad-acent HSDPA downlink carriers / MH0 each1 in co!bination with a single uplink
carrier. Peak data rates applying this feature reach 23 Mbit4s in downlink and /.& Mbit4s in uplink direction. 5y the end of 3('3 !ore than '(( operators have co!!ercially launched DC,HSDPA
services.
)here is one signaling channel HS,SCCH1 in each of the two downlink carriers* i.e. scheduling fle6ibility in ter!s of different transport for!ats depending on C78 feedback is !aintained on
each carrier. Dual Cell HSDPA is activated via HS,SCCH orders layer '1 as already used for other HSPA" features like continuous packet connectivity CPC1. +ne uplink HS,DPCCH
acknowledges the data packets on each of the two downlink carriers.
)esting the DC,HSDPA feature affects a nu!ber of scenarios including infrastructure* !obile devices and chipsets. Pri!arily* !a6i!u! data rates need to be verified in the lab as well as in real
life operation. Additionally co!ponents of both base stations and !obile devices need to be tested on % and baseband level. %ohde 9 Schwar0 offers a wide variety of test solutions for DC,
HSDPA.
