Bio CV Abdalla Awidi June, 2015

Abdalla Awidi trained in internal medicine, Hematology and Oncology at the University of Manchester, England. He had visiting professorship in Paris University, Lund University in Sweden, Cornell medical college in Manhattan NY, and Washington University, Seattle. He has more than 35 years of experience in both clinical medicine, molecular and translational research in blood diseases and cancer. More recently his research is in translational aspects of stem cell biology and regenerative medicine.

He is a full Professor of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Jordan Medical School since 1988 and has been teaching there since 1980. He has served in several posts in Jordan including university president, medical director and senior researcher. He holds numerous awards including young scientist award, best research award from the ministry of higher education and state appreciation award of Jordan.

Prof. Awidi has directed over the years the development of clinical hematology and clinical cancer care in Jordan. His research work covers a wide range of areas including the bleeding disorders in children, venous thrombo-embolism in females, molecular aspects of colo-rectal cancer, polycythemia, hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, and Glanzmann thrombasthenia. More recently his research is directed towards stem cells in regenerative medicine, especially related to skin, knee cartilage, neuro-inflammatory and neuro-degenerative diseases.

Prof. Awidi recent research aims to develop new therapies using stem cells for old medical problems which have no curative therapies.

Prof. Awidi is fluent in Arabic, English and Spanish.
