NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test NSW schools will participate in a school readiness test between 14 August and 22 September 2017. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run’ for schools to assess their technology ahead of NAPLAN Online. The readiness test is not an assessment of student ability. The readiness test allows schools to: • become familiar with the NAPLAN Online test format

and processes • check whether they have the technical capacity,

rooms and devices to administer NAPLAN Online • provide students in NAPLAN years 3, 5, 7 and 9 with

the opportunity to experience the online test question types and format by completing a practice NAPLAN online test.

Parents, students and schools interested in familiarising themselves with the NAPLAN Online format can access the NAPLAN Online demonstration site that includes sample tests for each NAPLAN year. Use the following link: http://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/naplan-online/naplan-online-public-demonstration-site

Tell Them from Me This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPad, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 21 August and 13 October. Although participating in the survey is voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated. Our school will provide further information about how to access the survey. In the meantime, more information about the survey is available at http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/

Young Archies Part 3 This week we meet the last of our Young Archie entries Young Archies Presentation On Friday 11th August, Austin Morley and Yolanda Hao were presented with their certificates for winning their age categories in the Young Archie Competition for portraiture at the Western Plains Cultural Centre. The competition is inspired by the Archibald Prize and encourages young people to engage with portraiture. It was open to all young people in Dubbo between 5 and 18, with about 260 entries being submitted from schools all over Dubbo. Mark Horton – Dubbo's own Archibald prize finalist and ANZ Agribusiness manager Ian Horsburgh presented the students with their certificates and prize money. Along with our winners' artworks, there are 11 entries by our students on display until Sunday at the Western Plains Cultural Centre. It is well worth a look!

Zara Wilson (6 Years) Finalist

Self-Portrait - Pastel on black paper. I drew myself. There is a black wall at home and I drew myself in front of it. I look just like my picture.

Rex Bassingthwaighte (10 years) Finalist

Grandad - Drawing This is a portrait of my Grandad. He is the best. He is just about to turn 80 years old and I drew this as a gift. My Grandad is my inspiration because he is brave and funny. The small background pictures and letters all represent a part of him.

Jasmine Lyons (10 years) Finalist

Self Portrait - Mixed media This portrait is of myself. The background is based on my personality. It is colourful,

interesting and messy because no one is perfect.

Alice Walker

(6 years) Self Portrait - Drawing This is a picture of me. I am in my school uniform with a beautiful rainbow around me.
