From Sharon’s desk
Welcome back to another school year. All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 have now returned and look great in their uniform. Thank you to all parents for reinforcing the uniform policy at home. Please remember all students must wear a hat and bring a drink bottle with water which can be refilled during the day. Classes will remain the same for the remainder of the week while we process new enrolments, students returning and class numbers are balanced. All students should remain as they are—if any changes are needed you will be contacted or if you need to discuss any issues, re classes, please make an appointment. Book Packs are available for students from Year 3 to 6. These books are for the entire year and are selling at $10 for Stage 2 and $12 for Stage 3. PBL and how we leave school Arrangements have been made for leaving the school grounds. Further details are contained with this newsletter. As parents it is incredibly important that you set the example for your children and follow these requests and organisation to keep all children safe. Parents please take note of the signage around the school and streets. Police have been carrying out checks and some parents have been fined. This is totally out of our control. Our neighbours often get irate with parents parking across driveways so please be considerate when parking around the school. Let us work together to get the best outcome for all. The staff carpark is for staff only—it is not a general carpark. Do not drop off or collect your children from these areas. Concerns, issues or suggestions: Please raise these with class teachers if required or otherwise make an appointment with myself to discuss working together. Being transparent as a school is important. Developing a positive working partnership is a priority. Any students that have Health Care Plans: Any student that has an allergy, anaphylaxis, asthma or epilepsy should have
a current Health Care Plan signed from your doctor. It is a requirement that we have a copy of these plans—Please bring them to the office for filing. A reminder that Dubbo South Public School is a nut free zone. We have several students who have extreme allergic reactions to peanuts. Please consider when you are packing your child’s recess or lunch that peanut butter or Nutella sandwiches are not permitted. Have a great week. Sharon Murray, Principal.

Welcome to another exciting year of reading and learning in our Library. A warm welcome to all our new students and we are so glad to see all our returning students. Classes will visit the Library weekly or fortnightly. As timetables are finalised they will be updated on the school website.
Library Bags
All students need a bag to borrow books from the Library. We will not have a supply of plastic bags to give out. In keeping with our war on waste we would love to see reusable bags. Responsible students will remember to bring a bag from home to borrow books.
Author Visit
Craig Smith visited our school today Craig ran 4 sessions throughout the day in the school hall. One session was for students wanting to learn more about drawing. This was limited to 20 students. We will look at an author visit for Stage 1 and Kindergarten in Term 3.

Arrangements for Leaving School
Fitzroy Street
The yellow gate is only for pedestrians.
All pedestrians entering and exiting the
school from Fitzroy Street must use this
gate. This is located between 2C and 2G.
Yellow signs will be visible from Fitzroy St.
This will provide easier access to the RMA patrolled
crossing where families can continue down Hutchens
Avenue away from buses and other traffic.
The blue gate is only for students catching the bus. It will be
used for teachers to walk students directly from the bus
lines to their bus without interference. The ‘blue’ bus gate
will remain locked. Our bus students and any
child waiting for parent pick up line up under
the Fitzroy Street COLA.
Dalton Street
Pedestrians leaving via Dalton St are to use the
double gates near the crossing. Bus students and any child
waiting for parent pick up are to sit on seats provided inside
the gate.
Bikes and scooters Years 3 to 6.
Students on bikes or scooters are to walk their bikes and
scooters out of the office gate on Fitzroy St or down to the
Dalton St gate. Students using this form of transportation
are to always wear a helmet and walk across the crossings.
Teachers will be monitoring the afternoon exit procedures to
ensure all students are following these expectations.

Welcome To Our New Teachers!
Miss Madison Gobbert I moved to Dubbo at the end of last year from Inverell NSW. I am lucky enough to have my very own Year 2 class this year. My favourite part of teaching is how rewarding it is to watch kids grow and learn. I am excited to be working at Dubbo South Public School and look forward to the challenges and the year ahead.
Mr Tim Cassell It’s lovely to be joining the Dubbo
South school community. I myself
studied here in Dubbo before
teaching in rural areas and then
abroad in England. My favourite part
of being a teacher is having the
ability to inspire our little people, and
having a room full of fans! I am looking forward to working
with both the students and families to create a positive
and successful school experiences.
Miss Anthea Patteson I am in my third year of teaching and I have just to moved to Dubbo from Orange. My favourite part of teaching is everything Creative and Performing Arts. I especially love teaching dance! A fun fact about me is that I’m also a qualified makeup artist and personal trainer!
Miss Mel Puckeridge I have been a teacher for 10 years. In recent years I have taught at St Pius X School here in Dubbo. I believe that every child, no matter who, is entitled to an education. I look forward to becoming of the Dubbo South family.

BACK TO SCHOOL TIPS FOR PARENTS
As we commence Term One of the school year, it is timely to remind ourselves to slow down and look out for children around schools
during school hours. It is also timely to update ourselves with current school zone parking legislation.
Drivers and riders should allow for children who may act unpredictably on the road as uncertainty and excitement over the new school
term overrides otherwise sensible behaviour.
Please remember to abide by School Zone speed limits of 40 km/h from 8.00 am to 9.30 am in the mornings and 2.30 pm and 4.00 pm
in the afternoons.
Parents are reminded also to brush up on their safe parking skills around schools when dropping off and collecting their children.
Use the kerb-side doors for children to access and egress the car.
Do not allow children to go to the rear of the car to deposit their bags in the back door (or boot).
Do not call children from across the road to your car, collect them from their side of the road or park legally where you can and
go to meet them, then cross the road together.
Illegal school zone parking causes dangerous situations and brings with it some heavy fines as follows:
No Stopping - means you cannot stop in this area unless there is a medical or other emergency - $330 fine plus 2 demerit points.
No Parking – means you can stop here for a maximum of two minutes to drop off or pick up passengers and you must stay within three
metres of your car at all times - $183 fine plus 2 demerit points.
Bus Zone – School Days – means you must not stop or park your vehicle in a designated school bus zone between 8.00 am and 9.30 am
or between 2.30 pm and 4.00 pm (times may vary at some schools) - $330 fine plus 2 demerit points.
Stop on or near a children’s crossing – means you must not stop on or within 20 metres of the approach of a crossing or within 10 me-
tres after the crossing - $439 fine plus 2 demerit points.
Double parking (school zone) - means you must not stop on a road between the centre of the road and another vehicle parked at the
side of the road - $330 fine plus 2 demerit points.
