Wednesday 29 June 2016
Dear Parents/Carers,
What an incredibly huge term this has been. Throughout the term, students have had the opportunity to
participate in Cross Country events, PSSA Sport (apart from the wet weather), theatre visits, eisteddfod and other
activities too numerous to mention. At all times, our students represent our school well; following our Positive
Behaviour for Learning expectations and participating to the best of their ability. It is particularly on these
occasions that I am so proud to be the Principal of Dubbo West.
Still, the term is not yet over with a huge week this week. First semester reports were sent home on Monday. A
parent/teacher afternoon is planned for Tuesday 26th July between 3.30pm and 6.00pm. Should you have
concerns or questions, however that can’t wait until then, please do not hesitate to make an appointment to see
your child’s teacher.
On Tuesday, students who participated in eisteddfod will have their pizza lunch to celebrate their achievements.
Tuesday night will be our disco with proceeds going towards the Stage 3 excursion. Our band will attend a
workshop with Hurlstone Agricultural College who are visiting Dubbo for the day on Wednesday. All students from
Years 3-6 will then be treated to a concert with our band playing alongside Hurlstone.
Friday sees our long anticipated concert and community day with the reveal of plans for the Primary site for next
year. It is anticipated that building will commence in around October this year and we are still looking at
completion next year. It really is very exciting and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. The
architects will also be here so please take the opportunity to have a chat with them and raise any concerns or
questions that you may have.
On Saturday, Dubbo West will be open as a polling place. The school will be operating a BBQ to raise money on the
day. If you are able to spare some time between around 8am and 2pm, please let the office staff know. It is a great
opportunity to show support for our school in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Have a safe and happy holiday break and try to stay warm. School resumes for students on Tuesday 19th July.
Remember: Continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking our potential.
Regards,
Eileen Day Principal

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition
District final
Last Thursday our school hosted the District final for the Multicultural Public Speaking. This competition
is organised by the Arts Unit in Sydney. Schools from as far away as Cobar, Coonamble and Mudgee as
well as local schools were represented.
Stage two competed in the morning and Stage Three competed in the afternoon. We had two students in
the afternoon final. Sasha Morrison-Zhou and Aidan Alexander both did a wonderful prepared speech and
a mighty effort with their impromptu speech amidst some steep competition.
We also had some of our senior students assist as chairperson, time keeper, greeting visitors and helpers
with impromptu speeches. Thankyou to Sarah Hall, Amelia Sanders, John Toohey, Thomas Nguyen, Tamiah
Woodbridge, Archie Kater and also to Tyrell Ryan who started the day with the Welcome to Country. You
all did a wonderful job.
