Spring Fete Postponed
Our P & C have decided to postpone the
Spring Fete for this term in order to be part of a
larger fundraiser early next year. Planning is
taking place to have a “Fun Run” which then
leads into a mini-fete of activities in 2016.
The P & C have gained a $11,000 federal
community grant to purchase new fixed
equipment. Fundraising will focus on raising
further funds towards the new fixed equipment.
Other P & C News
Thank you to Belinda Gillard, who has taken up
the Vice President position with our P & C.
Our Canteen have installed new security
screens, security screen door and a new
refrigerator. At the November Healing Haven
markets our P & C will run a combined BBQ &
Cake Stall.
Congratulations to Isaac Majerowski who
received his Principal’s Award for continued
academic focus and commitment to taking on
extra roles within the school.
Swimming Program
Congratulations to our 33 Year 2 & 3
students who are undertaking the
intensive swimming program. They
handled both the hot and cool weather to put
in great efforts in the first week’s lessons and
impressed their instructors. They will complete
the second week of lessons this week and
parents will be pleased with their improvement
in their swimming skills. Special thanks to our
team of parents who have been transporting
students to and from the pool each day.

Bushfire Readiness Day
This Thursday 5 November we have a special
Bushfire Readiness day for all students. This has
been arranged as part of reviewing our Fire and
Emergency System and to support bush fire
season readiness.
The Rural Fire Service will run two special
workshop sessions for all classes. These will
involve a session in the Fairleigh Hall with a talk
and questions on bush fire readiness and a
session on the hard court with a fire truck
demonstration.
A parent bush fire readiness talk will be held in
the Fairleigh Hall from 7.00 - 8.30pm this Thursday
to help support parents.
Our School is on the bush fire register of schools
most prone to bush fires. I have attached an
Information sheet for parents on “Arrangements
for the bush fire season”.
Congratulations to Leah O’Hagan who
received her Principal’s Award for excellent
leadership, citizenship, debating & academic
excellence.
Whooping Cough Outbreak
There is an outbreak of whooping cough in
NSW, mainly affecting school-aged children.
Coughing spreads the infection to anyone
nearby and is especially dangerous for babies.
It starts like a cold and progresses to bouts of
coughing that can last for many weeks.
Attached to this newsletter is a further
information sheet.

Report Writing
Class teachers will commence writing semester
2 student reports next week. We have collapsed
all normal release arrangements to provide one
day’s release to each teacher to commence
this important task. Reports will be sent home to
parents on Monday 14 December.
Remembrance Day
Next Tuesday 11 November our Year 6 students
will attend the Remembrance Day service at
the Dudley Memorial. This will commence at
9.00am and therefore we would like all Year 6 at
school by 8.45am to allow time to walk there.
They will be supervised by Jason Horadam and
Peter Adams. This is generally a short,
informative service that we feel our Year 6
would benefit from attending.
Second Kinder Orientation
Our 2016 Kinders will have their second session
with us next Tuesday 10 November from 11.30—
2.00pm. They will participate in games, activities
and craft and will have the lunch session with us.
State Premier’s Spelling Final
Next Wednesday 11 November, Monet Murray
will compete in the State finals of the Premier’s
Spelling Bee. Monet won the Stage 3 Hunter
Region Spelling Bee competition and will now
compete against the best Stage 3 spellers in the
state.
This will be held at the ABC Centre in Ultimo
Sydney. She competed in the same competition
last year as a Year 5 student, placing 13th and
will take that experience to this event. Our
school is very proud of her achievement and we
wish her amazing spelling.
Charlie Carr Assembly
On Friday 13 November, the 10:35 assembly will
be run by 3/4CP and aims to be an upbeat
celebration of Charlie’s life and how she has
inspired us.
The intention is to honour Charlie as a wonderful
friend and person. In addition to a few
multimedia presentations, the Stage 2 and
Stage 3 choir will perform two songs.
There will be a Principal’s Award and the
Charlie Carr Award presented but there will be
no class awards at the assembly.
At the conclusion of the assembly the Carr
family will be invited to privately walk through
Charlie’s Garden. Parents may view Charlie’s
Garden at another time.

Whooping cough information for schools
There is an outbreak of whooping cough (pertussis) in NSW, mainly affecting
school-aged children.
Coughing spreads the infection to others nearby. Whooping cough can spread
to anyone at home, including younger brothers and sisters. Whooping cough
can be especially dangerous for babies.
Whooping cough starts like a cold and progresses to bouts of coughing that can
last for many weeks. The infection can occur even in fully-vaccinated children.
Older children may just have a cough that is persistent and may be worse at
night.
*Children with these symptoms should see a doctor
*If your doctor diagnoses whooping cough in your school-aged child, please
let the school know and keep your child at home until they have taken 5
days of antibiotics. Keep coughing children away from babies.
*Whooping cough vaccines give good protection against infection but im-
munity fades with time. Check that all your children are up to date with
their vaccines, due at 6 weeks, 4 months, 6 months, 4 years and 12 years of
age (offered to all year 7 students through the NSW school-based vaccina-
tion program). A booster is also recommended at 18 months of age.
A booster dose of vaccine is also recommended for adults that are in contact
with young children, such as school staff and parents. Pregnant women are rec-
ommended to have a booster dose during each pregnancy and this is funded by
NSW Health. Those who are new parents or carers of babies should consult their
general practitioner about appropriate immunisation.
Your local public health unit can provide advice about whooping cough on 1300
066 055 or visit the NSW Health website for information for childcare and schools
about whooping cough
