COORDINATOR’S GUIDE

Page 2: DUKE TIP in India

Dear Educator:

Greetings from the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) and Educational Initiatives (EI), the creators of ASSET. We are extremely proud to announce the launch of the Duke University TIP in India Talent Search. For over 30 years, Duke University TIP has been identifying and serving academically talented students in the United States. This year, in partnership with Educational Initiatives, we are launching a Talent Search in India to help educators and families find out how advanced their students’ abilities truly are and what level of educational challenge is appropriate. For the first time, eligible 7th standard students will be invited to join other gifted students throughout India to take an above-level ASSET test. Students will receive a comprehensive Results Summary of their performance on the above-level test, as well as numerous additional educational benefits and resources.

We look forward to working with you during the inaugural Duke University TIP in India Talent Search. You will be a critical member of the identification and support process for gifted students, and we hope you will join us in offering this important educational opportunity to your students.

This guide includes:

• Instructions for participation

• Qualification requirements

• Benefits information

Participation in the Talent Search involves four steps:

Enrollment Deadlines

ELIGIBILITYTo enroll in the Talent Search students must:

• Be currently enrolled in the 7th standard. • Attend a school that has accepted the invitation to participate in the Duke University TIP in India

Talent Search.• Have scored at the 95th percentile or higher on the English, Math or Science sections of the in-level

ASSET test taken in August. Students need to qualify in only one of the accepted subtests.

ENROLLMENT FEESThe non-refundable enrollment fee for the Talent Search is Rs. 700. This fee covers the cost of the above-level ASSET test administered in December and all Talent Search benefits through the student’s 9th standard year. Travel expenses to and from the testing site will be each family’s responsibility.

BENEFITSn Above-Level Testing Experience These bright students are already excelling on tests designed

for their grade. The knowledge and experience gained from taking an above-level ASSET test is invaluable. Above-level ASSET testing provides helpful insight into their academic abilities and allows them to effectively plan for high school and beyond. Additionally, these testing experiences give 7th standard students the opportunity to preview the same test they will encounter later in their schooling.

n Tools to Interpret Scores In addition to a written summary that compares 7th standard scores to high school students’ scores, a detailed Results Summary will provide information to families about how their child performed relative to other 7th standard students participating in the Talent Search. The summary also provides suggestions for academic development based on performance.

n Special Recognition All students will receive a Certificate recognizing their participation in the Duke University TIP in India Talent Search.

n e-Newsletter Duke University TIP will issue a regular online newsletter that provides families with resources and information to assist their child in reaching his or her academic potential.

n Duke TIP Educational Programs Talent Search participants will receive information on Duke TIP’s wide range of educational programs, including Independent Learning. Exceptional performance on the December out-of-level ASSET test will qualify a very few select students for Duke TIP’s renowned online e-Studies courses and residential Summer Studies Programs in India and the United States. Additional fees will apply for educational programming.

Please join us in celebrating the academically-talented youth of India by viewing video of Duke TIP’s Summer Studies Program in India at www.tip.duke.edu/india.
