11th, 12th, 13th & 14th SUNDAYS AFTER PENTECOST - AUGUST 2018
SUNDAY, AUGUST 12 – SEPTEMBER 16
In addition to Sundays, Bishop Gray will be in the All Saints’ office one day each week.
(Day to be announced)
After two decades of offering resources and support for cancer and fibromyalgia patients, community awareness programs, a casserole ministry and resource library, Women First closed its resource center at the end of June. On Wednesday, July 18, on behalf of Women First, Directors, Sherry Abraham and Judy Hester, presented a check for $95,000 to Saints’ Brew. This very generous donation will be used for the long-term growth and management of our Saints’ Brew ministry. We extend our deepest thanks to the Women First Center for this incredibly generous gift!
The Rt. Rev. Duncan M. Gray, III 9th Bishop of Mississippi will be the celebrant and preacher at our Sunday
services.

God, who is the giver of every good gift, you are ever present
in our lives and in the world. You act through us, your people,
to care for and provide for everyone. We pray for the courage
to break out of our insecurity and fear around money as we
deepen our understanding of our relationship to you and how
we use our financial resources to do your work in the world.
We pray these things that we might know you better, that you
will increase our desire and ability to give and help others
through ministry and friendship and to gratefully commit
ourselves to the work you have given us to do. Amen.

PARISH MINISTRIES
Faith gives us the power to see life very clearly, to
admit that sometimes it seems all wrong and still to
know that, somehow, it is all right.

The Society of St. John the Evangelist
The Altar Guild is one of the most essential ministries in the Church. We
make the first step of our Sunday services happen. We are a behind the
scenes group, a lot like the props committee and stage hands!! Without
us, none of the rest happens for the Sunday service. That being said,
please give some prayerful consideration to joining the Altar Guild...we
need you. We provide OJT and one on one training. Please contact Cathy
Sparks for more information. P.S. Gentleman Welcome!

PARISH MINISTRIES
ALL SAINTS’ NEWCOMERS! There are no strangers at Newcomers, only
friends who have not yet met!
Whether you are new to our parish or have attended
for years, All Saints’ Newcomers is a wonderful way
to meet new people and enjoy learning more about
our church family.
The Newcomers’ mission is to provide awareness of what our church community has to offer, and the opportunity to build new friendships. Our primary goal is to enrich the lives of all members by providing varied social activities throughout the year where parishioners can meet and socialize with fellow Episcopalians.
For dinner planning, call Tommie in the office and let her know if you can attend, but it is not required.
IMMEDIATE NEEDS Family size boxes of Frosted Flakes, Fruit
Loops, Raisin Bran, coffee, sugar and

Churchwide Day
of Service
Sunday, September 9
Since 2013, thousands of ELCA congregations
have participated in this dedicated day of
service, gathering to serve communities in
ways that share the love of God with all of
God’s people. The event has become an
anticipated way to be “church together” and
“church for the sake of the world.” These
service activities offer an opportunity for us to
explore one of our most basic convictions as
Lutherans:
All of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service,
in every daily calling, in every corner of life –
flows freely from a living, daring confidence in
God’s grace.
If you have suggestions for what you think
CtK’s service project should be, please share
those with any church council member by
August 19.
CtK Quarterly Church Council Meeting
will be held on
Sunday, August 19 at 9:30 a.m.
in the Conference room
Items on the agenda include:
❖ Planning the service project for “God’s Work. Our Hands.” Sunday.
❖ Develop action plan for CtK’s future based on the visioning workshop.
❖ Plan “Beer ‘n’ Brats” event for October. ❖ Review YTD financial report. ❖ Discuss date to begin confirmation class for new
confirmands.
If you have any additional items for consideration, please see
any church council member.
CHRIST THE KING
ELCA Churchwide News The ELCA made history in May with the elections of the first
female African-descent synod bishops!
On May 5, Patricia A. Davenport was elected bishop of the
Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod and less than 24 hours later,
Viviane Thomas-Brietfeld was elected bishop of the South-
Central Synod of Wisconsin.
Synod members saw the bishops-elect not through the lens of
focusing on differences, “but as baptized people of God, looking
at the gifts that people bring, and voting based on that” said
Thomas-Brietfeld.

SUNDAY LECTIONARY
SUNDAYS ~ 9:30 a.m. South breakout room of the Parish Hall
The Sunday Lectionary Class is a Christian
education offering for adults that meets
every Sunday year-round. This gathering
features a presentation on selected texts
from the scriptures appointed for the day’s
liturgy, followed by lively discussions as
the class wrestles with the readings to find
meanings for today. The presentations
and discussions aim to be enlightening,
nourishing and challenging (and many say
they’re frequently entertaining as well).
With participants ranging from the
outspoken to the quiet listener and
everything in between, there is a place for
everyone seeking to hear what the Spirit
is saying to the Church.
The new additions to our prayer list are those names listed in bold. You may find an updated copy of the prayer list at allsaintstupelo.org.

Dear All Saints’ Family, The purple deacon’s stole is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for such a lovely gift for my ordination. While adding this stole to my slim collection of vestments is wonderful, I find myself unable to fully express my gratitude for all the gifts you’ve poured out on me for the past 25 years. All Saints’ is where I fell in love with the Episcopal Church - its liturgy and its beautiful traditions and the way it welcomes all who come to it. All Saints’ has raised me, supported me, challenged me and provided so many opportunities for me. These are the gifts, intangible as they are, that I treasure. Thank you for being my home for all these years. I have felt your prayers throughout this process, and I ask you to please continue to hold me in your prayers. When I wear this beautiful stole, each of you will be right upon my heart and will be with me as I start in Corinth.
With love, joy & thanksgiving, Mary Howard
