Monday, December 4th from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the FDMS caf- eteria (please use the north parking lot and doors) Wednesday, December 20th from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the FDMS auditorium (please use the south parking lot and the audi- torium doors) This will be an opportunity to hear the research, see the potential boundary plans and ask questions. All schools will be closed for winter break December 23 – January 1. We look forward to seeing our stu- dents back in class on January 2 and wish all of our Dodger families a happy and safe holiday season! Holiday Programs December 14th. Over the Thanksgiving break, I was stretched out on the couch after a big feast watching a football game! As I enjoyed the game, a nagging thought popped into my head; “Pat, it’s been a LONG, LONG time since you’ve had your eyes checked….you need to do that SOON!” Indeed I am at a crossroads…..either I am going to upgrade from my 42 inch plasma screen TV to a 50 inch monster with a picture so big, so bright and so vivid even I wouldn’t miss a thing….or…..I make the logical choice and go get some more powerful glasses. What to do…..what to do?
My vision is definitely not 20-20 these days. It also takes me a little longer to recover from a full day of hunting or outdoor work than it used to. I’m simply not a “spring chicken’ any more. All that sounds very depressing, doesn’t it? But I have great news!! Because I’m not running around 100 mph like I used to 20, 10, or even 5 years ago, I’m able to enjoy some things that I didn’t notice so much in the past. An optometrist would tell me my eyes are in bad shape. I will tell you that I am now “seeing” many things more clearly than I ever have! A friend recently gave me a new bird feeder and I truly treasure the goldfinches’ regular visits to my picture window. I enjoy watching my neighbors’ cats frolic about throughout the neighborhood. I look forward to when I can mow the lawn again and smell the freshly cut grass! I have an ever-increasing appreciation for the love of life (and the love of learning) the children of Duncombe exhibit every day. I see the loving teachers and associates bring hats, mitten, coats and boots for youngsters without them, and there’s no doubt in my mind they bought them out of their own pock-ets. I walk by a room and hear a teacher say to her students, “I am so lucky to have you wonderful children in my classroom!” I see smiles; I see dedication; I see caring every minute of every day I am at school. I see that I am very, very fortunate to be sur-rounded, every day, by so much that is good! I am glad that I sometimes “slow down” to see these reassuring and heartwarming things!
I ask all of you, during this time of “hustle and bustle” to stop (or at least slow down) and assess all that you have been blessed with in your life. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season! Mr.Reding

BILINGUAL BOOK CLUB
Duncombe's bilingual book club meets after
school on Thursdays to celebrate diversity and
help build literacy skills in Spanish and English.
Community members read aloud from bilingual
books and students participate in discussions and
activities connected to what they've read. There
is also time set aside for students to read inde-
pendently in either or both languages. The club
has over 100 students and several parents attend-
ing. The next meeting on Dec. 7th will celebrate
Latino music and dance
Students decorate marshmallows as skulls to cel-
ebrate the Day of the Dead.
