Cover image:Brain scan of one of the staff working in the world-famous “Dunedin Study” (which started in 1972). Each colour indicates the direction of connections in the brain at a given moment in time. This incredible scan represents about 8 minutes of the total scan time (75 minutes) for each study participant – imagine the amount of information being gathered. This will form the largest collection of scans of a birth cohort in the world and the researchers believe it will give new insights into the earliest signs of ageing.

Dunedin is New Zealand’s student capital and one of the country’s best centres of learning. It is home to 25,000 students – approximately 20% of the city’s population.

This vibrant city is a hub of events, activities, exhibitions and more. With abundant wildlife on its door step and heritage buildings housing the great cafes and nightlife there is something for everyone.

The University of Otago and the Otago Polytechnic are adjacent to one another, making for a greater campus area, just minutes’ walk from the city centre. You are likely to live within walking distance of your lecture theatres, classrooms, libraries and gyms, and your neighbours are probably students too, so it’s easy to make friends.

Dunedin Tertiary Open Day gives you the chance to explore these campuses and experience the tertiary environment first hand. You are invited to visit special displays, presentations and explore the various facilities students use.
