Durand Football 1965-1969 Throughout the years, Durand High School has had some tremendous athletics teams. Whether it's girls' basketball, football, wrestling, and most recently the boys' basketball team, Durand's always had a healthy tradition. There is, however, one period in the history of Durand athletics that has been all but forgotten, and that is the Durand football teams from 1965-1969, who won an amazing 36 games in a row. The streak began with two wins at the end of the 1965 season, and ending in 1969, with a heartbreaking loss to River Falls in the final game of the season, by a score of 20-14. Many great players and teams came down the pipe in this period of time, and we will, hopefully, give them the recognition they deserve. The Panthers would then score the most points in school history the next week after beating Flambeau 85-6. Durand finished the year off by trouncing Stanley Boyd 42-7 and Clear Lake 60-6. The Panthers "D" gave up only 25 points in the 8 game season an average barely over 3 points per game. Rick Walker scored 138 points on the season, and 23 touchdowns. Rick Walker still holds records for points and touchdowns in a season, and points and TDs in one game, when he scored 5 TDs against Clear Lake and Nekoosa. Tom Bauer tied Walker's record of 30 points in a game the following year.
