Additional Information
*A wet soil type would be described as one with water within the top 8inches of the surface consistently and frequent ponding on the surface.Moist would be consistent groundwater presence but rare to noponding. A well drained soil is one that has high amounts of gravel orsand allowing quick infiltration of water. Signs of a well drained soil areground water at a depth of several feet, no ponding, and typicallylocated from floodplains to hillsides. A dry soil is typically a very welldrained soil that infiltrates quickly and has a steep slope causingincreased runoff and less retention. Soils are very complex and may noteasily be categorized into one of these four generalized groups. If youhave concerns for picking the right species please call and we will behappy to advise you.
**The wildflower mix bags can be used to create a dense patch in a flower garden or used sparingly by mixing with sand or grass seed to add variety to a disturbed area.
***For more detailed information on the wildlife boxes or any species please visit our website http://dutchessswcd.org/.
****The fertilizer tablets are a great way to provide a boost to new or existing shrubs and small trees. The essential nutrients to plant growth and vigor are nitrogen (20%), phosphorus (10%) and potassium (5%) and are all within the tablet at those percentages.
*****The Environmental Education Program helps the district to provide educational outreach to students from classroom workshops to the regional Envirothon competition.
