GOALS IN ENERGETIC EFFICIENCY


PUBLIC SPACES

WINTER CONDITIONS -Even though the orientation of pubic spaces is south, some of them have problems because of wind and lack of isolation. Being not comfortable for staying during this season.

-The best spaces to stay in during the winter, are the parks and the areas both protected against winds and sun exposed.

SUMMER CONDITIONS -The best spaces for staying during summer, are the ones esposed to winds, and covered by trees.

-The worst spaces to stay, are the ones which have no protection against sun radiation provided by trees, or the ones wich have large paved surfaces.

WINTER CONDITIONS -Considering the age of the buildings as well as the sun path, we considered that most of the facades within Ciudad de Los Ángeles have a bad orientation facing winter condition, However, there are a lot of households facing south, or southwest, which are the best orientations facing winter conditions.

-Both the age of the edification as well as the lack of isolation is a problem in moreover of the buildings.

SUMMER CONDITIONS -The main problem of this season, is the large amount of households and buildings facing east or west, it is going to be necesary to control the sun radiation earnings over every facade facing east, south and west. We may expect extremely high temperatures because of the Climate Change during this season.

-There most undesiderable orientations of facade facing summer conditions are the east and west due to the difficulties to control the sun exposure.

PUBLIC SPACES SWOT -Strengtnesses:

--Large amount of green spaces. --large amount of trees. --good connections with mass transit. --Public space protected from winter winds. --Good sun exposure of public space facing winter. --Good protection against sun facing summer, either within public space or

facades, guaranteed by caduceous folliage trees. -Weakness: --Little mixture of uses. --Huge amount of waterproof pavement. --Narrow spaces which are shaded during the winter. --Environmental pollution. --Huge amount of motorized displacements. -Opportunities: --Insertion of more sustaintable means of transport. --More environmental and social awareness in everything related to public space

maintenance among people. --Rehabilitation policies focused on the environmental improvement of public

spaces. -Threats: --Environemntal pollution from the city center of Madrid, carried by winds. --Incoming noises from the nearby infraestructure. --Replacement of the commercial and working places model in the area, by

another one based on the zonning, which will suppose the increase of motorized

displacements.

BUILDINGS EFFICIENCY SWOT -Strenghtnesses:

--Good orientation of the most of the facades.

--Good sun exposure of buildings facing winter conditions.

--Good protection of facades against sun exposure during summer

guaranteed by caduceous folliage trees.

--The insertion of galleries and bioclimatic elements on facades is not

difficult.

-Weaknesses:

--Inefficient facades.

--No adaptation of windows to facade orientation.

--Some buildings have bad facade orientation.

-Opportunities:

--Rehabilitation policies focused on the improvement of energetic

efficiency among buildings.

--More environmental awareness among people, which can suppose

the insertion of new habits aimed to save either energy or water,

besides the insertion of a consuption culture more respectful with the

environment.

-Threaths:

--Energetic crisis.

--Increse of the price of fossile energies.

--Rise of temperatures in summer due to the Climate Change

--Rise of the environmental pollution and noise.

PARTICIPATION WORKSHOP 1: NEIGHBORHOOD CIUDAD DE LOS ANGELES

PARTICIPACION WORKSHOP - We will go to do a workshop with the neighborhood on Saturday 21 with the objective to know even more about their needs and propose improvements in the social lives and physical necesities of the neighborhood. - Initially we dived the themes, commercial and economic dynamics, green dynamics, landscape and social dynamics, with the intention to recognize where are the weaknesses in the neighborhood SOCIAL DYNAMICS : MAIN POINTS -The population of Ciudad de los Angeles is approximately 19,500 people and women represent 52.08% compared to men representing 47,92%. - Almost 30% of the population is over 60 years old, while only 12% is under 14 years of age, this means that we must invest in public spaces and equipments for the elderly

MAIN SOCIAL AREAS. -The neighbourhood Ciudad de los Angeles, has enough space to provide a good social life. -Some spaces needs a rehabilitation: Some commercial areas sports areas social spaces, led to inhabitant > 65 years SOCIAL DYNAMICS . - With the existence of a high-school in the middle of the neighborhood the time to arrival and departure of students, the area around turns impossible to drive. - Because of a huge number of elderly people on the neighborhood, the local commerce are important to to provide easy reach to their needs

PARTICIPATION WORKSHOP 2 : GRENN DYNAMIC AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE LANDSCAPE

GRENN DYNAMIC AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE LANDSCAPE In this workshop will work two different but closely related topics: intervention in the medians facades and urban gardens. Initially aims to organize two working groups formed by volunteers who want to occupy their leisure time on improving the environment and the appearance of the streets of the neighbourhood, giving a useful to multiple spaces and incorporating artistic elements in them. In a second phase, it could also focus as a way to give work to the unemployed of the neighborhood.



URBAN GARDENS Aims of the experience: - Experience of active leisure for adults as for children - Environmental awareness - Training and learning on issues such as composting, recycling, organic farming, etc. -To integrate to the neighborhood in networks of urban gardens, to share experiences with other associations and to be opened for other neighborhoods.

Outline of the workshop: - Volunteers select, valuing motivation, disposition and experience. - To seek for areas available and adapted to the persons implied. - Establish strategies to obtain tools and seeds. - Designing a "Plan of Ecological Garden" and his work schedule through the advice of experienced associations



INTERVENTION IN THE MEDIANS FACADES Aims of the experience: Explore the possibilities of improving the urban landscape by intervention in the numerous medians walls that are nude in the neighborhood. Motivate the observation and assimilation of the physiognomy of the neighborhood. Raising awareness about urban aesthetics. To promote love for his neighborhood and responsibility for its configuration Possible creation of milestones so much in the neighborhood. as to municipal level Outline of the workshop: -To analyze the multiple possibilities of intervention of permanent or temporary character: vertical gardens, wall paintings, illusions, light installations, sculptures or reliefs, shadow play according to the guidelines and layout of the sun by time of day, exhibition texts or photographs. -To locate the most interesting walls and to value his impact for the neighborhood. To decide a global strategy and his division in phases to facilitate the economic viability and material Programming the organization of a design competition by popular vote open to artists from within or outside the neighbourhood.
