From the President…A Time to Give Thanks!

Thanksgiving is more than food, family, and friends.Think back to United States of America’s founding fathers who started a new life in an unknownwilderness, so they could enjoy liberty of conscience. The Pilgrim Pastor, John Robinson, gave them thischarge before they left England: “"Brethren, we are

now erelong to part asunder, and the Lord knoweth whether I shall live ever to see your faces more. But whether the Lord hath appointed it or not, I charge you before God and His blessed angels to follow me no farther than I have followed Christ. If God should reveal anything to you by any other instrument of His, be as ready to receive it as ever you were to receive any truth of my ministry; for I am very confident the Lord hath more truth and light yet to break forth out of His holy word."--Martyn, vol. 5, pg. 70 & “Great Controversy” pg. 291-292

Unfortunately, they did not follow his advice. But God had a plan and a man named Roger Williams. After suffering weeks of religious persecution, he eventually founded the State of Rhode Island. Under his leadership, he instituted freedom of worship, “that every man should have the liberty to worship God according to the light of his own conscience."--Martyn, vol. 5, pg. 354

Over time, freedom of conscience and religion became this growing nation’s principles. By God's leading they were incorporated into the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights; “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion orprohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

I encourage you to spend time re-reading chapter 16 of the book, “The Great Controversy.” If you don't have a copy, call us for a free, mailed copy. It is a blessing to broadcast God’s word over the radio airwaves. We hold these rights as a sacred trust made possible by God and our Covenant Partners’ prayers and monthly financial gifts. May God continue to bless you and the United States of America.

STR Changed LivesBy Pastor Jay Clough

Bill Omell came to our church after watching Strong Tower Radio (STR) TV, yes that is correct. Somehow, he put a TV antenna on a two-story pole to get free TV and

got STR TV, and he stayed tuned-in nonstop! Being convicted of the Sabbath, he found a Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church, and he started attending the Houghton Lake SDA Church.

Bill recounts a time when the devil tempted him. He was sitting in his garden picking blueberries trying to decide if he was going to continue to go to church. He told himself he had already missed a week, and if he missed this week he was never going to go back.

He was picking berries and it was getting dark, when suddenly, he noticed someone else in his garden. To his amazement it was Carol Cowell, a Houghton Lake church member. Bill told her about his thoughts of not coming back to the church. She explained that the devil was planting those thoughts and that he needed to go to church the next day. Bill did and has been attending ever since! Church members encouraged him and shared Bible promises. Through their efforts, along with Carol’s, Strong Tower Radio, and Jesus, Bill Omell was baptized on September 22nd.

Since then he has hosted a hayride social at his house. My daughter told me that “Bill has the best tractor in the world!” He is witnessing to family and others as he continues to grow in Christ. We look forward to seeing how the Holy Spirit will use Bill to spread His message. As you would expect, Bill continues to regularly listen to Strong Tower Radio!!

STR Pastor’s PerspectiveAs a new pastor to Northern Michigan, I was excited to hear that all three of my churches, Mio, Houghton Lake, and Grayling have access to Strong Tower Radio. My experience has been exemplary. Because of STR, I have already baptized Bill Omell (the previous story) who came to our church because of this ministry and am currently preparing another gentleman for baptism because of Strong Tower Radio. Lives are changing, and the Gospel Message is spreading with great success. I look forward to seeing what happens next in my churches!

Thanksgiving and the Bill of Rights (continued from page 1)

The Reformation is built on the Bible. It was Jesus who taught; “Dounto others as you would have them do unto you.” So, when the Bible was printed in the common language, it changed the world! Suddenly, people could see the Bible compared to that of the popes. From theBible, Christians learned to love and care for their fellow man and not torture them to death like an Inquisition. They were to pray for theirenemies instead of trying to kill them. Their eternal destiny dependedon the freedom to make choices and not blind obedience to kings andpopes. It was the Bible’s picture of the real Jesus, who came to serve rather than being served, that changed the world. This nation was settled by people who had the Bible. They did not wantchaos but freedom, under laws that reflected the golden rule. Without the Protestant Reformation there would have been no Bible. And without the Bible there would have been no America, its Bill of Rights orfreedom!
