SecureDisc for RimageSecureDisc for Rimage

What is Encryption? How does it work with SecureDisc?

• Encryption is a way to secure data by scrambling it with a specific

mathematical algorithm and a key or password

• SecureDisc encrypts the entire disc, not just the files and folders residing on the disc, making it a much stronger solution

• SecureDisc uses the AES (Advanced Encryption Standard), the fastest and most secure encryption algorithm commercially available. AES is certified as secure by the NIST

• SecureDisc generates a secure 256-bit encryption key using a password provided by the user (or can be automatically created).

• Users need the correct password to access encrypted discs

©2008 Discrete Technologies, Inc. Slide 6

SecureDisc Overview• Encrypts the entire disc image, not just files or folders

• Provides password access control and authentication

• Simple to Use – loads as a plug-in DLL in Prod. Server

• SecureDisc Decrypt Client is free and provided separately

• End user needs the SecureDisc Client and correct password to access the encrypted disc

• Compatible with Rimage Producer systems and Professional Series systems

• It is not copy-protection – it does not protect content

• It does not require specialized media

©2008 Discrete Technologies, Inc. Slide 7

SecureDisc: How it Works• SecureDisc loads as a plug-in DLL

in Production Server.

• SecureDisc is turned on in the

Rimage software using the

‘Enable Recording Modification’ option.

• SecureDisc retrieves the encryption password from one of three sources: 1. Merge field

2. Password file, or

3. Fixed option as set in SecureDisc console

• SecureDisc automatically encrypts the cached disc image

• After encryption is complete, SecureDisc passes the image back to Production Server to burn and print the discs

Making an Encrypted Disc 1

• Configure SecureDisc– Define password source

– Password is automatically blanked out before disc is burned

• Encrypted discs are not readable by any operating system

• The entire disc is encrypted, including file names and directory structure

©2008 Discrete Technologies, Inc. Slide 9

Making an Encrypted Disc 2

• Using QuickDisc– Specify password in merge field ·or· create a password.txt file to be

included in the content ·or· set password as constant in console

– In job recording options, check “Enable Recording Modifications” box

– Submit job and wait for disc to complete

• Using the Rimage API– Similar to QuickDisc, specify password in merge file ·or·

specify password in a file that is included with disc content

– Set XML job request to “enable recording modifications”

– For legacy applications, this is a zero code change:

set the “Always Encrypt” registry option for Production

Server (Available starting with Producer Software Suite 7.3)

©2008 Discrete Technologies, Inc. Slide 10

Reading an Encrypted Disc• Users must have the SecureDisc Decrypt Client installed

·and· correct password to access the encrypted disc

• Without the SecureDisc Decrypt Client, recipient’s PC will reject the disc, or say it cannot be read

• Once the password is accepted, the disc is unlocked, and “streaming” decryption is performed, with little performance degradation

• Once decrypted, content is NOT protected – It is only as secure as the person who has access to it

• The SecureDisc Decrypt Client is free from our website

Why buy SecureDisc? Compliance considerations

Many organizations are compelled, or mandated, to protect confidential, sensitive or proprietary data by government compliance regulation, such as:

GLB – The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act: Requires “financial institutions” to protect the privacy of their customers, including customers’ nonpublic, personal information

HIPAA – The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act: Addresses the security and privacy of health data

SOX – The Sarbanes-Oxley Act: The Corporate Malfeasance and Governance Act forces companies to, among other things, protect corporate information

California SB 1386 – The California Security Breach Information Act forces companies to disclose when personal data has been compromised – a real incentive to protect data!

©2008 Discrete Technologies, Inc. Slide 12

SecureDisc: Categorizing Buyers

There are three categories of SecureDisc buyers:

• Those companies that are mandated by compliance reasons GLB ~ HIPPA ~ SOX ~ SB 1386

• Those who have been compromised – The barn door is broken open and now they want to close it

• Those who are data compromises – they have heard about stolen laptops and lost CDs and don’t want the barn door broken open -They want to

eliminate the FUD from their life!

©2008 Discrete Technologies, Inc. Slide 13

SecureDisc: Who’s buying it?• Financial Services and Banks: GLB

– Monthly Statements

• Health Care and Insurance: HIPAA– Patient and Customer Info

• Public Corporations: SOX– Corporate data (plus protect proprietary designs and info)

• Data Providers: SB 1386– Any company personal or confidential data, e.g., VISA, MC, AMEX

• Government: Sensitive But Unclassified (SBU)– We are looking for an Agency that needs it ~ FIPS costs $30,000!

©2008 Discrete Technologies, Inc. Slide 14

SecureDisc in the Real World 1

• FiServ: Financial services clearinghouse for small banks, credit unions and other financial services companies with over 200 locations

• Customer statements on disc from ‘lockbox’ department

• To fully comply with GLB, Fiserv must protect customer’s personal and confidential information

• FiServ/Atlanta is a current Rimage customer and bought 3 new systems and SecureDisc from a Rimage VAR

• Rimage VAR made as much on SecureDisc as it did on the Rimage systems!

©2008 Discrete Technologies, Inc. Slide 15

SecureDisc in the Real World 2

• Ceridian: International payroll processing and human resource firm serving 110,000 companies in more than 130 countries, including more than 50% of the Fortune Global 500 and Fortune 100

• Ceridian is a Rimage customer and bought 20 new Rimage systems and 20 copies of SecureDisc from a Rimage VAR to comply with GLB

• Needless to say, this Rimage VAR is a convert to solution selling!

©2008 Discrete Technologies, Inc. Slide 16

SecureDisc Licensing and Decrypt Client

• SecureDisc for Rimage is licensed per Rimage control center

• It is also sub-licensed per unique encrypted disc image– A running count is kept of every

unique encrypted disc image

– Every unique encrypted image decrements an internal counter

– Multiple copies of the same unique encrypted image counts as one

– Encrypted images are supplied in Encrypted Image Packs “refills” of 1K, 10K, 25K & Unlimited

• Remember: The SecureDisc Decrypt client is license free and needed to read disc

watched folders to disc

Trigger mode: Records folders to discs with “trigger” file

Integration mode: Provides interface for legacy applications to work with newer Rimage systems

©2008 Discrete Technologies, Inc. Slide 28

How AutoDisc Works 1

• Watcher mode– Watches a ‘hot’ destination folder

– When ‘hot’ folder reaches a pre-determined size, AutoDisc

automatically writes it to the Rimage

– Once recorded, the ‘hot’ folder is renamed

• Trigger mode– Watches a destination folder

– When the destination folder receives a “trigger” file, the

recording job is sent to the Rimage automatically

…continued
