T Many libraries have sets of items that patrons can borrow. These might be a combinations of different items, such as multiple DVDs, books, magazines and any combinations of different item types. FE Technologies has an excellent solution to make sure your set items can be browsed and accessed by patrons on the shelves, and borrowed without staff intervention.

Most sets can be tagged using our standard credit card tags. Disks can be tagged using our round 40mm or 120mm disk tags. There are two types of set management that libraries may consider:

Note: If more than two disks form part of a set then this should be tagged as a Type 2 set. Disk tags are not reliably read when in close proximity to metal parts (i.e. the disk itself). Disk tags themselves are not reliable as security for the item. Lockable DVD boxes should be used instead.

Type 1 Set Management

Tagging all items in the set. When items are borrowed or returned by the FE Technologies Library RFID System the system will verify that all tagged components of the set are present during a transaction before successfully processing the item. If items are missing, the transaction will fail with an appropriate error message. So your patrons (and staff) will be notified whenever a set is incomplete during the borrowing or returns process.

Type 2 Set Management

This involves tagging just the first item of a set that tells the system the number of items that form that set. Type 2 set is normally used when you wish to tag multipart sets where it is not feasible to encode all items in the set, and is also useful for sets that include several disks.

We’d love to discuss library RFID and its benefits with you and your team. We can gladly set up a demonstration of our products at your premises, arrange a tour of our site, or a visit to one of our up and running RFID libraries.
