What does "certification“ mean?

• Certification is a conformity assessment by an recognized impartial third body (= certification body)

The certification body itselfs needs for their work an accreditation ( e.g. according to DIN EN 45011)

By an initial type examination from a recognized testing laboratory shall be verified that the product meets all the requirements of the specific testing standards.

• Monitoring of the manufacturing of the product in the market phase

What are the benefits?

The certification mark offers the following benefits:

Manufacturers who use globally recognized standards for conformity assessment , set standards for service quality

Openness and transparency increased confidence

in dealing with audit and control = Market acceptance

mechanisms

What are the benefits?

The DVGW certification marks:

documented a high safety, quality and hygiene standards show a constant correlation between the rule-setting (requirement) and

examination demonstrate competence through 70 years experience in the field of

certification documented the highest national, European and international

recognition

Testing requirements for valves in water supply

DVGW testing standards always include the three aspects: Hygiene, safety and usability

1. Hygiene requirements- metallic materials according to DIN 50930-6

- non-metallic materials: according to UBA/KTW and DVGW W 270

2. Technical requirements: - DVGW standards (e.g. DVGW VP 546)

- DIN-, EN-standards (e.g. DIN EN 1074-1 and DIN EN 1074-2)

Testing requirements for valves in water supply

1. Hygiene requirements :

Componets which are intended to come into contact with drinking water, should not change the quality of the drinking water.

This means for metallic materials: The requirements of the material composition of DIN 50930-6 are fullfilled.

This is achieved by an test certificate according to DIN EN 10204-3.1       Metal analysis demonstrated at each batch.

Testing requirements for valves in water supply

1. Hygiene requirements :

For non-metallic materials :

- all plastic parts, coatings and lubricants need a test certificate

according to the specific UBA – Guideline.

- for rubber producs (e.g. sealings) a test certificate according to KTW-

Recommendation 1.3.13 is necessary

- and additionally a test certificate according to DVGW standard W 270 is necessary for all organic components

External monitoring

The manufacturer will be checked whether the requirements of testing are met.

Implementation by an auditor of the testing laboratory Review of manufacturers self-monitoring

Documentation in a control test report Monitoring interval varies depending on relevant testing standard

(e.g. DVGW VP 646 every two years on site at the manufacturer)

Page 42: DVGW certification of products in contact with drinking water

DVGW certification of products in contact with drinking water

External monitoring

• Extent on the example of the DVGW VP 646:         - Review of self-monitoring         - Drawing test on the basis of documents from the initial type test         - Review of label         - Review of a sample on a nominal basis from the series in accordance

with DIN EN 1074-2, -3; -4 or -5, Section 5.5 (rolling removal of           sizes by external supervision)         - Review of all plant and inspection certificates (materials test certificate

DIN EN 10204) under the traceability of the components         - Checking the validity of the hygienie test certificates

Quality assurance

Requirements of DIN EN 1074-1:

"The manufacturer has to monitor the quality of its products during their

Manufacturing within a production control system, so that the manufactured

Products fullfil the use suitability requirements of this standard.

The quality system of the manufacturer have to comply with the requirements of

DIN EN ISO 9002. In addition, it is recommended that the quality management

recognized by a competent independent certification agency. "

Page 45: DVGW certification of products in contact with drinking water

DVGW certification of products in contact with drinking water

Quality assurance

Additionally ask Section 5 "self-monitoring" of the DVGW VP 646:

"As part of the self-monitoring the manufacturer has to ensure that during manufacturing the requirements of this test standard are met. The results of the self-monitoring, in according to the manufacturer's inspection to be documented.

In context of manufacturers quality system they need to have to document the frequency and the scope of its self-monitoring. The DIN EN 12266-1 Annex A.3 "tightness of the pressure housing, testing P11" requires a 100% testing of each valve to implement. "

Conclusion

Up to now there is no possibility to use European directives for the certification ofproducts in contact with drinking water. There remains the DVGW- and the DIN-DVGW certification according to theDVGW Regulations an evidence of the recognized rules of technology.

The products certified and monitored are in conformity with the national statutory

rules and regulations, the requirements of DIN standards and the DVGW

Standards and Codes of Practice as well as common market practice.

This means they have the required safety, fitness for use, functionality, quality,

hygiene and environmental compatibillity.
