Graduation. I also remember nearly passing out while standing and observing hours of orthopedic surgery. For some reason I also remember oncology rounds and Temple Grandin speaking to us.

Goofy skits before major exams, "Ma" Thrall at the 10 headed microscope, Dr. Glock's beard, running an equine gut in pathology for the first time, ice cream on dairy visits with Dr. Dinsmore, dinner at Dr. Frank's house at the end of pathology rotation, Dr. Schwarz asking question after question in rounds until I couldn't answer one, Dr. Ogilvie's advice that the first practice you work in will shape the way you practice the rest of your career so pick carefully (so true!), "feeling the thrill" in a PDA surgery with Dr. Orton, diminutive Dr. Belknap working on a huge cow, "See one, Do one, Teach one", refluxing a colicky horse and getting a mouthful of fetid stomach contents (nearly refluxed myself!)... Overall, I just remember what good teachers we had, what good case experiences, and the good friends.

At the "Welcome to Vet School" reception at the Holiday Inn my wife saw Dr. Lappin lurking around outside and said "oh good, they have a band". (he had very long hair back then...) Lots of laughs (and some studying) in the cubes. Parties at Mike Smith's house - bonfires and tons of dogs. A lot of great memories, and some bad smells...

My current position - I teach Small Animal Primary Care to 4th year Veterinary students at Oregon State University. We teach this rotation at the Oregon Humane Society - lots of access to medical cases and surgery.
