There's me!Shining in the woter-sun!There's me!With ai! the fishes, weeds and things!Me moves when I move!Me laughs when I laugh! And there's a crooked sky and a white bird flying through a turtle's shell! But tell mewhere goes day each night? And where goes night all day?How far is the sky up?How deep Is the earth down? And what puffs up clouds and wets the rah? Who pulls the river and blows the wind?I can fly my kite and ca tch butterflies,I can even climb a tree! But tell me why can 't I outrun m y shadow?

DEDICA TION

\Ne love you.

How's that for a start? How's that for an ending? Actually, there Is no fitting way to say goodbye to you, for you have filled our heads and our hearts with your true g ift— friendship—and it is impossible to say goodbye to a friend.

Although in a constant state o f distraction in dealing with our problems, you have been a hallmark o f stability. You are full o f the strengths and smiles we sometimes lose. What more could we ask for? The times we spent with you, and learned w ith you, made us grow, made us appreciate what we were and what we had. You taught us how to listen. You showed us how to care without being ashamed. Your office, with that tiny, rusty, old fan, was always open to our endless lists o f complaints and our seemingly magnificent triumphs (sorry about the O Levels, though), if you were ever upset with us or with your workload, we never knew it. We are still not clear on how you kept smiling, but you did, and we were all the be tte r for it. All o f this and so much more makes us love you. We always knew we possessed such feelings toward you, but it is only now, when faced with the reality o f leaving you, that we begin to realize their depth.

Our final message to Dwight, the importance o f communicating, sharing friendships, and showing feelings, is conveyed throughout this yearbook. But the most important page is this, the dedication page, for it is your lesson o f friendship that makes this yearbook what it is. We thank you, Doris Post, for performing an impossible task without ever losing your smile: You m ade us happy.

We'll think o f you, and we love you very much.

Dear Seniors,You must have a noble vision for your life and your society, without such a vision you will have no compass. Reflect once again on what Gibbon recorded, "In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they w anted security. They w anted a com fortable life and they lost it all— security, com fort and freedom . . . when the Athenians finally w anted no t to g ive to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsiblity, then Athens ceased to be free.'' Good LuckI

As the hundredth graduating class, you occupy a significant p lace in the history o f Dwight School. You are indeed worttiy standard-bearers o f a g rea t tradition. Your class has shown enormous talents in so many fields that even a partial listing would fake more space than allotted. You have contributed much, and I know that as you face the future your past accomplishments will give you the confidence and strength to m eet the m any challenges ahead. My best wishes for your success go with you always.

How wonderful life would be if we could only forget our misfortunes as easily as our blessings. Too many o f us dwell on our e very day p e tty problems wittiout counting the many blessings we ttave as American citizens. As you g e t older, you will appreciate ttie American way o f life mucti more than you do now.

Kiss today good-bye!The sweetness and the sorrow. Wish me luck, the same to you. But I can 't regret What / did for love.Look my eyes are dry.The g ift was ours to borrow, it's as if we always knew. And I won't forget. What I did for love.Gone . . . People in the stands only see those whio score. But you win games by ge tting down in the dirt, by chasing guys even though there's no chance to ca tch them. You win with scrap, attitude, and desire. Ingredients like these normally go unnoticed.

Athletics has always been a m ajor p a rt o f the Dwight community. There has been one constant and inimitable force behind the Dwight school spirit. This force is Mr. Henry Cadra, the Athletic Director and Varsity Basketball coach. Dwight School is indeed fortunate to have the finest and most ded ica ted basketball coach in the metropolitan area. All o f Coach Cadra's teams have been known for their discipline, hustle and enthusiasm. He has produced many championship teams and outstanding players who have gone on to p lay on the collegiate level. Most im portantly though, he has taught the young men who have had the opportunity to p lay on his teams the value o f hard work and m ental toughness. Dwight School and the Class o f 1981 salute Mr. Cadra.

PERFORmiG ARTS

Drama a t Dwight saw a very successful season this year. This was partly due to the enthusiasm shown by the students who were in the plays and the students who cam e to see them. But most o f the credit for the year's successful program must go to the group's directors: Marina Tichotsky, Tom Thayer, and John MacDonald. These three ta lented people guided the students (and the faculty thespians) through the m any aspects of the theater, all the while stressing the importance o f professionalism.

BACKPACKING

Rather than sit and complain about the February weather, the Dwight Outing Club took the train to the plain, woods and streams o f the Ocala National Forest for ten days o f backpacking, swimming and canoeing.

We traversed a variety o f terrains ranging from burned out pine and oak woods to swamps o f palm and pa lm etto d raped with spanish moss.

We came home knowing a lo t about Florida's flora and fauna (in particular robber squirrels and racoons), bu t especially and most importantly about ourselves.

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. And sorry / could no t travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as / could To where It bent In the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair. And having perhaps the be tte r claim. Because It was grassy and w anted wear; Though as for that, the passing there Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. OhI I kept the first for another day!Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever com e back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence:Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by.And that has made all the difference.

-Robert Frost

Things Pass

From the tree o f life.Leaf a fte r iea f falis around me.Oh, world delighted with ecstasy. How you fill me a t last. How you fill me with weariness. And make me drunk!Whatever still glows today Is soon lost.Soon the wind rattles Across my withered grave.Over the small child The mother bends down. Her eyes are what I want to see.Her gaze is my star.Everything else can appear and vanish. Everything die, everything, good riddance. Only eternal m other remains. We came from her.And her fingers write our names Delighted on the fleeting air.
