From the Principal’s Desk… Dear Eisenhower Parents, Today we celebrated “Put Your Nose in a Book Day”

sponsored by the Northwest Indiana Literacy

Coalition. Our theme this year was a Disney one –

We sang “Whistle While You Read!” and all listened to the story,

“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (read by Snow White

herself!) while wearing our red noses. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Einikis and Mrs. Robinson for coordinating such a fun event.

Our new Eisenhower shirts came in this week. Each grade has a

different color and will wear them for field trips, field Day, and

spirit days throughout the year. As you can see, there are some

READ-A-THON GAME TRUCK PARTY We are very excited to add an ULTIMATE GRAND PRIZE for our Read-a-Thon! Some very lucky students will be part of a Game Truck party at Eisenhower. This is just an extra reason aside from our daily prizes to join this wonderful program and have fun reading! Here are the details on how your child can be entered for this prize. Two students from each grade will be chosen for this fun prize.

Kindergarten & First Grade � 1 student will be picked with the top donations. � 1 student will be picked with the most minutes read and logged

on the Read-a-Thon page (student MUST be signed up for this program online to enter).

Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades � 1 student will be picked with the top donations from each

grade level. � 1 student will be picked from each grade level with the most

AR points during the Read-a-Thon (student MUST be signed up for this program online to enter).

Mark your calendars for our scheduled picture retake day which is Friday, October 28th. If your child did not take a photo or wants to re-take one, you will need to send in your order envelope/money for new pictures, or bring back your original photos for the re-take. RED RIBBON WEEK Eisenhower students and staff will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week during the last week in October. Monday, October 24th will kick-off our exciting week of fun for everyone! Our Ike menu will list each “Spirit Wear” theme for that week and grade level contest winners will be announced each morning! EISENHOWER SCHOOL’S OPEN GYM Come to Eisenhower School’s Open Gym on Saturday, October 15th from 7:00 to 9:00pm at the Midwest Gym (located at 1204 Erie Court in Crown Point). The cost is $10 per child. Bring your family and friends to a fun and safe environment. This event is open to all! Jump, play and just have fun! Adults can stay and watch, or drop-off (school age kids) and have a Parent’s Night Out. We have Ike parents chaperoning this event. An adult must sign in the kids. This is a good opportunity to let kids come and be kids. Kids can tumble, jump on a trampoline, or just play in the pit. No Jeans Allowed!!! No pants with belts, buckles or rhinestones! NATIONAL BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH All this month we will be sharing different tips with the students that pertain to Bullying. Please look for the handout that went home today titled “TOGETHER WE CAN BE BULLY FREE”. This may be good information to help facilitate a conversation about bullying at home. This week we discussed how to recognize what bullying is and next week we will talk about the 4 main types of bullying behavior, as outlined by the State of Indiana. � Physical Bullying: hitting, kicking, pushing, punching, breaking

someone’s things. This is probably the easiest form for children to identify.

� Verbal Bullying: teasing, taunting, threatening, name calling. � Social Bullying: exclusion, spreading rumors or gossip,

embarrassing someone, limiting access to friends. � Electronic or Written Bullying: mean or hateful texts, emails,

or internet posts, texting embarrassing pictures or videos, forwarding rumors.

Attention Ike Families: The fifth graders are working together on a Veteran’s Day Program which will take place on Friday, November 11th. Parents, Grandparents, and Veterans are invited to attend the program at 2pm in the Ike Gym.
