DynaMc® Auto Key to Installation of Services Bridgnorth Aluminum is a leading producer of lithographic aluminum strips in the United Kingdom. The aluminum strips are used in the manufacturing of lithographic printing plate material. The company has more than 45 years experience in aluminum milling, and at their Bridgnorth, Shropshire location, the company has a hot rolling mill, cold rolling mill, levelling and slitting lines, casthouse and metal recycling equipment. The company continues to grow as more and more demands are made for highquality printing plates. That led to the company creating an extension to their facility. To plumb the facility with water and gas, Bridgnorth Aluminum chose highdensity polyethylene (HDPE) pipe. To fuse the 600 meters of 315mm gas piping, Eddie Pownall and EJP Pipe and Site Services Ltd., worked with MCA Hire to secure a McElroy DynaMc 412 Auto . The DynaMc 412 Auto is an automatic fusion machine for fusing pipes from 110mm to 340mm. The machine fuses to British Gas industry specification PL23:2006, as well as some other specifications. The DynaMc 412 Auto features a common electronic control unit and HPU to operate the carriage, heater and facer. The heater included with the machine automatically retracts to minimize open and close times. The compact machine can be “tented,” which is often a requirement on a UKbased jobsite. EJP Pipe and Site Services is based in Wilmslow, Cheshire, England, and provides turnkey project construction. Their experience ranges from cooling tower installations to pipe work to installing chilled water systems. The project at Bridgnorth Aluminum was one of their first using polyethylene pipe. Fusion training was provided by personnel from MCA Hire . The 600 meter lengths of gas and water pipe marked the parameter of the future building site. The fusion process occurred above ground, with the pipe then being lowered into an open trench. “The fusion work is very easy as long as you stick to the guidelines,” said Pownall. “We like using the fusion machine and working in the tent kept us warm at times.” Eddie and his team completed the work in about four weeks due to various delays, including a shut down. Having had plenty of experience joining other types of pipe materials together, Eddie is looking forward to his next

P.S. – Do you have an interesting job site that you would like to share? McElroy is always looking for fusion job siteswhere HDPE is being used and fused to solve an infrastructure problem. Contact Tyler Henning, public relationsspecialist at (918) 8319286 or by email at [email protected]

TracStar 500® Series 3The new TracStar 500 Series 3 fusion machine features several majordesign advancements over previous models, including an indexermounted heater and facer, economy engine throttle setting andhydraulic clamping as a standard feature. The machine fuses pipe from6inch IPS to 20inch OD (180mm to 500mm).

With the heater and facer now mounted on machine, operators nolonger have to manually place the heater or facer in the carriage duringthe fusion process. The economy engine setting saves fuel by throttlingdown when idle. The addition of hydraulic clamping helps reduceoperator fatigue and saves time by clamping pipe into jaws of thecarriage with the push of a lever.

Two versions of the TracStar 500 series 3 will be available – a standardmodel and an Automatic TracStar 500 Series 3. The Automatic version offers control and monitoring over the heat,soak, fuse and cool cycles. The system guides the operator through a stepbystep procedure for fusing pipe. Both theAutomatic and standard versions have the ability to record fusion parameters with McElroy’s DataLogger®.
