What is UPS…

It stands for Uninterrupted Power SupplyComes in action when main power supply fails or power interrupts.

Works as backup supply for short duration. Energy stored in batteries are used as a backup supply .

Has typical electronic circuit consisting of battery charger and inverters.

Provides protection from power surges.

Conventional Static UPS

Conventional Static UPS

Cons of Conventional UPS

Needs battery for energy storage which requires high maintenance.

Have electronic circuit like charger and inverter, so less reliable.

Have less power carrying capacity i.e. not suitable for heavy loads.

Transient response is not good so it is not suitable for very critical loads.

Inverter output is not pure sinusoidal in nature having spikes and flat tops.

Not purely uninterrupted, it have interruption of the order of few millisecond.

The DYNAMIC UPSAn uninterruptible power supply, also uninterruptible power source, UPS or battery/flywheel backup or Dynamic UPS is an electrical apparatus that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source, typically mains power, fails. A UPS differs from an auxiliary or emergency power system or standby generator in that it will provide near-instantaneous protection from input power interruptions, by supplying energy stored in batteries, super capacitors, or flywheels.

The on-battery runtime of most uninterruptible power sources is relatively short (only a few minutes) but sufficient to start a standby power source or properly shut down the protected equipment.

Why Dynamic UPS

For IT Loads A small interruption in data centers may lead to incur loss of

vital network traffic. Fluctuations in power supply may lead to data loss or

interruption in important data processing. Improved power factor by dynamic ups reduces overall

electricity bill.

For Industrial Loads Interruption in supply will cause to cease various utility motors. Material handling on conveyor belts does not allow even a few

seconds of interruption. The synchronous motor in this system supplies reactive power

to the utility grid correcting the overall power factor of the industry.

Why Dynamic UPS

For Electromagnetic lifting Even a voltage dip of few percent may cause weakening of

electromagnet intensity and disengaging of lifted freight. Due to its great transient response, there is very negligible

chance of accident to happen.

The chance of starting of generator is very high as mechanical stored energy due to continuous running flywheel is required to start.

It reduces spikes, surges harmonics, and produces the output in purely sinusoidal wave.

Has more electrical components, hence more reliable. Has no batteries, hence least maintenance are required.

Future Scope

Dynamic UPS technologies must be implemented to the Lifts which can be used as the replacement with counter weight. It will not only provides the safety but also will provides continuous supply to the lift.

It can be implemented to the Battery Bank replacing the battery being used for storage of power for control circuit from Dynamic UPS in power sub stations.

In industries, capacitor bank can be replaced to Dynamic UPS Technology for Power Factor correction.

Few more industries also have to adapt this technology using which they will able to prevent common industrial accidents
