Public Service Announcement Activity
Students from Ashland, Chequamegon, Drummond, Maple, and Mercer gathered at CESA 12 for the start of the PSA (Public Safety Announcement) activity which is supported by a Gifted and Talented grant. Students are challenged with creating video PSAs that address Digital Citizenship standards within the Wisconsin Standards for Information and Technology Literacy. The finished PSAs will be aligned to standards, be grade band appropriate, original creations that will help students across the state learn about digital citizenship topics.

GLOBAL X
Global X is a Gifted and Talented, grant-supported activity which is in its second year. This year students from each participating district will have a classroom in another part of the world to exchange videotaped questions and answers about culture, kids, hobbies, school, music and more. Ashland has been paired with Germany, South Shore has been paired with Egypt, Mercer has been paired with India and Mellen has been paired with Russia. Students will learn about their countries, talk to kids in a classroom in that country, and prepare a presentation for the spring Global X event. These students will also be working on a fund-raising event to help a rural school in Zimbabwe. The needs in this small school, like many in the region, are great. The school we will be helping is requesting funds to purchase solar panels and computers. This school has no electricity and only a pit well for getting water. The conditions for educating students are poor. Our students strive to be leaders in their schools and communities and they also recognize the importance of being a global citizen and making a positive change in the world. If you would like to help this school in Zimbabwe, please contact Mary Maderich at [email protected] to find out how!
