Holy Family Community Makes

Connections

We commit ourselves to Live the CSJ Charism…share our spirituality and mission with young adults.

I spoke with a young woman, a St. Joseph Worker, from the St. Paul Province. If I had met her in another context, her choice of attire and the ring through her nose would have dissuaded me from approaching her. Age discrimination goes both ways! Her desires for personal growth and making a difference in our world offered an opening for sharing how we CSJs also have the same hopes and how we share in the mission of Jesus - bringing healing to the world. May we never be slow to share who we are and what we are about. v~ Submitted by Angela Faustina, CSJ

art as therapySister Donna Gibbs, CSJ is an artist in her own right and an Art Therapist Intern. She recently offered a presentation to the Sisters in Holy Family explaining that art is therapeutic, expressive and healing. According to her, art is healing for those who do it and becomes a mirror for self-understanding. She said that art is healing because imagery can express much more than words. “This kind of art is not about being an artist. This art mirrors behaviors that give an opportunity for reflection and understanding. Our drawing is intuitive and it knows exactly what to draw,” Sister Donna explained. She then guided us in a group project. We each drew a shape or line in our color then passed it to the next person until everyone at her table had added a line or shape. We soon discovered how we influence one another in our drawing. Those present expressed appreciation for Donna’s work and her time with us. v

Sister Corita Eisenbeiss, CSJ shows a pedometer that for three months Sisters in Holy Family have worn as an incentive to increase their amount of walking. Now they have another incentive. Five UNICEF exercise fit bit bands are shared among the Sisters to accumulate points that will earn food packets for undernourished children. The Sisters will participate in this UNICEF program for a year, and are registered under the name of “Sister Power.” v

to serve those on the margins, work for structural change“The future of religious life will be decided on the peripheries where Christ is in agony”, said Sister Mary Sujita–an Indian social worker and the first Asian to lead the Congregation of the Sisters of Notre Dame–addressing more than 900 women religious representing nearly 500,000 Sisters globally at the International Union of Superiors General (UISG) meeting last May 10. The meeting was held in Rome under the theme “weaving global solidarity for life.” “Sisters, we who have everything and often are among the most privileged women of the world, what are we afraid of?” Sujita asked. “What is the root of our cowardice and fear?” “How we choose to respond to this moment will decide the future of ministerial religious life,” she said. “We don’t have much time. Like Jesus, we are challenged to be filled with a divine recklessness. We are too careful. Jesus was reckless in his love. Are we ready for that?” v Click and read the complete article
