Very little differentiate the early seafarers from the high-tech vessels of today. The sea is still fiers and frightening; in fact even worse as today’s shipping and activities go further north than the boldest seamen of the past. More than ever, you need to put your faith in your skilled personnel and craftsmanship of your key suppliers. Quality manufacturers of marine products have the know-how to select materials and to combine them to provide you with top-notch products that you can depend on, and bet your life on, because that is what this ultimately is all about.
stAINlEss stEEl
Stainless steel is probably the safest choice for a non-corroding material onboard a vessel. In addition it has excellent mechanical properties which makes it withstand impacts.
Tranberg supplies several types of marine products that are made of stainless steel such as decklights, floodlights and search-lights. These products are normally very exposed to wind and sea, which is why we use a layer of powder coat paint to fully cover all sides of the products. This is a paint that is hardened at 185 °C, and which naturally withstands high temperatures after being cured.
More importantly, the paint sticks very well to the stainless steel surface, which is partly due to the fact that stainless steel expands only half of that of aluminum. This is why aluminum products often shed the paint after only a few months into service.
bRAss
Brass and stainless steel are probably the most widely used metals for marine components. Although brass for decorating products is selected for its shiny surface, TRANBERG as a quality manufacturer of outdoor lighting and navigation aids, prefer brass due to the non-corroding and
stabile properties. In the extreme environment that the sea presents, with seawater, wind, rain, heavy waves, high and low temperatures, and sometimes extreme sunshine, it doesn’t take long to understand why these materials are simply the best.
But there is more to durability than just
the known fact that plastic turns brittle in a very short time. The constant pounding of water flooding the products, or ice build-up that needs to be hacked off the lanterns or junction boxes, are two extreme, but very common factors to take into account when selecting the right products for a vessel that will sail the seven seas.

glAss
Another material that for years has acclaimed a reputation for high durability is glass. This is due to the ability to withstand both high and low temperatures, and a hard surface that withstand tear and wear significantly better than the more inexpensive plastic.
Transparency and colour stability are probably the two most important elements for a lantern lens, all while the lantern is still one of the most important navigational instruments onboard. If paint gets on the lens, it is not a problem to clean it with chemicals and the saltparticles will not grade the glass and reduce the visibility.

MAINtENANCE
• Tranberg 24V navigation light system uses a 230V power supply from main and spare switchboard and transform the voltage down to 24V in the controller.
• Tranberg navigation light controller has a voltage drop compensation for long distance to the lanterns.
• 24V bulbs has a thicker filament inside and are more resistant to vibrations. This bulb has 3-5 years lifetime.
• Tranberg navigation lights made of brass and with glass lens have 20 years warranty!
• Tranberg navigation lights have a lifetime of approximately 30 years.
20 yEAR WARRANty
The Tranberg lanterns are famous for their20 year warranty, which is due to the useof durable materials, such as brass andglass. The wide range covers vesselsranging from 7 meters and up.
A CoMPlEtE loW voltAgEsystEM Our low-voltage systems are based on a 230V power supply. A transformer in the controllersystem supplies 24V to the navigation lights.
Why ChoosE A 24v systEM?
24V light bulbs are more resistant to shocks and vibrations.• The filament inside a 24V bulb is much thicker than of a 230V bulb, and will last 3-4 years longer than a 230V bulb.• Reducing the lamp voltage will further increase the lifetime of the lamp.
10 - 11 NAVIGATION-, SIGNAL LIGHTS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS
24v lIght bulb
The filament inside a 230Vlight bulb is both longer and thinnerthat of a 24V light bulb. The result is thatthe filament inside a 40W, 230V light bulbis very fragile and withstands far lessvibrations and shock compared to a 40W, 24V light bulb.

A common issue with 24V systemsis voltage loss in cables, due to highercurrents compared to 115/230Vsystems. For navigation light circuitsit is not unusual with cable voltage lossof 7 - 8 Volts. Tranberg has solved thisby enabling higher voltages to circuitswhere the voltage loss is significant.• Our transformers have multiple outputs, from 22V to 32V, simplifying compensation when required.• All calculations are done by Tranberg when the connection diagrams are made.
flExIbIlIty REgARdlEss of vEssEl sIZE
Tranbergs navigation lights use high precision optics and high quality glass lenses. Our navigation lights will meet the requirements for light output – even if the voltage drops down to 21.5V.• For a 24V/40W lamp, cable lengths up
to 70 meters for 1.5mm2 cable and up to 180 meter for 2.5mm2 cable can be used without voltage compensation (increased voltage).• With voltage compensation (voltage increased to 32V), a 1.5mm2 cable can be used up to lengths of 270 meters.• Voltage loss has a benefit too. By reducing the lamp voltage by only
5%, the life length of the lamp will double. We recommend therefore only to voltage compensate circuits where it is necessary and not with higher voltage than required.• All our 24V navigation light control systems have this feature.

Tranberg searchlight system gives both the shipbuilder and ship owner many advantages. The ship owner requires the best product, while the shipbuilder will quote the solution with the lowest installation cost. The solution lies in a much simpler installation in the bridge. The traditional solution requires several slave panels with more cables to be pulled to the bridge and connected to all the panels. Conclusion: The Tranberg solution increase the safety for the ship owner and reduces the installation costs for the ship yard.

You may operate up to 8 searchlights from any of the installed panels. You simply push the button for the searchlight you want to control - and you are in control! In addition, you can dim the red background light on each panel, which makes it easy and simple to use in the dark.
18 - 19 SEARCHLIGHTS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS
RAdIo CoNtRol Another advantage with our network operated searchlight system is the possibility to add radio control to an existing Searchlight System. A small cabinet must be connected to the network to get the radio panel(s) operational. The main panels on the bridge will indicate when a searchlights is being operated from a radio panel (Or any other location). If required, the navigator on the bridge can take control of the searchlight from one of the panels on the bridge. The radio panels have a range of 300m and can control up to eight different searchlights. The panels is made in a robust watertight execution and is delivered with a carrying strap and a charger.
The remote controlled motor drive unit is the fastest on the market, and moves the light beam up to 40 degrees per second - and on the panels you have the possibility to adjust this according to your requirements. By excluding the auxiliary panel you save space in already crowded bridge consoles, as well as giving the navigator on the bridge less panels to attend to. This improves the safety and particularly with Naut-OSV class you do not have enough hands or eyes on the bridge to operate all the slave panels. If one of the panels is out of order, the other panels will function as normal which means the safety aspect is taken care off.

16 searchlights can be controlled from one panel. The panel let the navigator choose which searchlight he wants to operate. • All types of searchlights (Xenon, Halogen, SAR and HRI) use the same type of panel. In addition we can supply a separate panel for SAR.• 16 operating panels can be connected to the same circuit. All panels are ”masters”, which means that all panels have the same functions.• This means that by installation of 4 searchlights you formerly needed 4 main panels and 8 slave panels to control the searchlights from the bridge desk and on both bridge wings. With our bus system, you only need 1 panel to do the same job.• You only need a Cat 5 cable between the searchlights and the panels, which will reduce the installation costs significantly.• The panel has red dimmable backlighting.• Even if our panels are packed with functions, they are still user friendly and do not take up much space on the bridge desk. (H=96mm B=168mm)• The searchlight system complies with DNV, Naut-OSV.• An optional gateway may be installed to provide a two-way communication towards an external control system.• The panel has a ”home” function. This means that the search lights can return to a pre-programmed position by pressing the button “group/home”. The position is programmed by pressing the button for 5 seconds. • When all the searchlights are switched on, you can manoeuvre all chosen searchlights simultaneously by pressing the button “group/home”. The searchlights can be removed from the group by switching off the lamps.
The system also has a function where the shipyard/installer can program the searchlights motion limits to starboard and port. This is often necessary in cases where you do not want light on the hull or other equipment as this may interfere with the crew’s night vision. This system is the most advanced control system on the market for standard produced searchlights

The December 2008 version of the CAP437 guidance of the Uk CAA indicates the changes of the Helideck lightsystems. TRANBERG can supply a system in full compliance with the new CAP437 requirements.
PERIMEtER lIghts
The colour of the perimeter lights will change from yellow to green and there are additional requirements to the vertical beam angle of the light and the light intensity is increased from 25Cd to 30Cd. TRANBERG can offer an LED perimeter light which will have a very long lamp life of 100.000 hours, which will result in maintenance savings. The lights should be equally spaced at intervals of not more than 3 meters around the perimeter of the safe landing area.
floodlIghts
According to the letter from March 2006, sent by Uk CAA to the offshore industry, four (4) xenon floodlights have to be installed on the deck at an angle of 90º equally spaced around the platform for optimal illumination of the deck.
obstRuCtIoN lIghts
Obstruction lights for use on top of windsock – cranes derrecks – bridges and other obstructions. According to CAP437 : Omnidirectional steady red lights of at least 10 cd intensity should be fitted at suitable locations to provide the helicopter pilot with visual information on the proximity and height of objects which are higher than the landing area and which are close to it or to the LOS boundary. This should apply, in particular, to all crane booms on the installation.
IlluMINAtEd WINdsoCk
A wind direction indicator (windsock) should be provided and located so as to indicate the wind conditions at the offshorelocation. The windsock should be visible during the approach of the helicopter to the deck. The windsock should be illuminated for night time operations.

The TEF 4500 Commander Utility Helideck Lights Control System (HLCS) is a complete control system for all helideck lights. Based upon the Commander Utility technology, this control system allows the control panel to be installed in the bridge or radio equipment room, while the enclosure with all other necessary components may be installed further away. Between the two a simple Cat 3 ++ cable ensures that the industry-proven RS-485 network provides a reliable two-way communication.
hElIdECk stAtus lIght systEM
A helideck status light system should be installed if a condition can exist on an installation which may be hazardous for the helicopter or his occupants (i.e. gas alarm). The status light signaling system should be visible 360° around the offshore structure with a flash rate of 120 flashes per minute. The system shall be fully automatic and controlled by means of a control panel in combination with the platform gas detection system.
The floodlights are designed to provide adequate illumination of the whole area without glare to pilots or helicopter personell in the area. Helideck equipment manufactured by Tranberg is delivered to offshore installations, oil tankers, ships, hotels and hospitals all over the world. Helideck equipment from Tranberg is used for operation on elevated and non-elevated helidecks onshore and offshore in extreme environments.
The light give pilots a visual awareness of their position relative to the helidecks.

42 - 43 ELECTRICAL HEATING EQUIPMENT FOR WINTERIZATION
aNti-iciNg
Anti-icing is defined as prevention of ice formation, and according to DNV is required for Category I equipment areas. For these applications, anti-icing arrangements are required with sufficient capacity to keep the equipment or areas free from ice at all times in the service areas under moderate conditions.
de-iciNg
De-icing is defined as the melting of ice already formed, and according to DNV is required for Category II equipment or areas. For these applications, de-icing arrangements are required with sufficient capacity for removal of accumulated ice within a reasonable period of time (4-6 hours) under moderate conditions.

Tranberg has a long history of supplying equipment for extreme maritime environments, and has for the past 10 years supplied high quality solutions for winterization/de-ice and anti-ice. In cold climatewaters, the formation of ice on ships and offshore platforms can create serious problems to the safety of personnel and the economies of operation. The equipment and areas requiring measures against ice formation have been divided into two categories by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), as follows:
ElECtRICAl hEAtINg EQuIPMENt foR WINtERIZAtIoN 25% of thE kNoWN oIl ANd gAs REsERvEs oN EARth ARE IN thE ARCtIC REgIoNs.
Ships in operation in these environments have to be adequately heated. To make it possible to perform the related pumping and processing in the predominantly extremely low temperatures, pipes and equipment, instruments and switch cabinets must be safely heated. Heaters on stairs and walkways ensure safe working conditions. Ships designed for use in the arctic environment have to be equipped with de-icing systems to maintain:
• The main functions of the ship • Manouverability • Stability related to icing • Crew safety (rafts, life boats, gangways etc)
Tranberg has the related engineering know-how and suitable products to provide the customer with optimal solutions for heating in safe and potentially explosive atmospheres.
