1. ADSL2, being the successor of the well-known ADSL standard, adds new features and functionality targeted at improving performance and interoperability, and adds support for new applications, services and deployment scenarios. Among the changes are improvements in data rate and reach performance, rate adaption, diagnostics and stand-by mode.

2. RE-ADSL is an extension to G.992.3 ADSL2 that allows to significantly extend the reach of throughput capabilities.

3. ADSL2+ is an extension to the ADSL2 standard that goes even further in offering optimal broadbanding; it nearly doubles the maximum ADSL downstream data rates to up to 24Mb/s.

A Multi-level access policy has been introduced in CLI and GUI. With them, it is possible to use multiple management roles and users.

Web BrowsingInterception

Web browsing Interception offers an automatic redirect to internal troubleshooting pages when the Internet connection is down or links cannot be resolved.

Firmware v6.104versus v6.105

Following specific improvements have been implemented in the latest Release R6.1 firmware v6.105 versus its predecessor version 6.104:

New R6.1 Flexiport extention fixes and new R6.1 DHCP client fixesThe checking on the presence of the vendor class and user class identifier option was not correct causing the modem crash in a Flexiport setup.The reason was that the domain name option was not present in the DHCP messages send to the client, as a consequence the ST DHCP client refuses to proceed. Problem was caused by registering the domain name as a request option on the wan DHCP client causing the default domain name to be reset in the DNS server to an empty string. Domain name option will not be anymore requested by the WAN DHCP client.

New R6.1 DHCP / TFTP / TR-69 scenario fixesAfter ACS server RST ST's https request (sometimes one RST will cause CLI frozen, sometimes several RSTs will appear), first ST's CLI will no response but can reply ping request, then after 1 or two minutes it reboot automatically.

Local IP Issue IDescription:

For PPP, the system does not handle a configuration with a fixed configured local IP address that differs from the IP address dynamically assigned by the BRAS/RADIUS server.

Solution:

The issue has been resolved.

Unnecessary PPPConnect

Description:

When the user name and password for PPP are not configured (i.e. left blank), the system still tries to establish a PPP connection.

Solution:

The issue has been resolved; The system now refuses to initiate a PPP connection when the user name and password are left blank. This reduces the load of failed PPP connections on the BRAS/RADIUS server.

Incorrect ResetBehaviour

Description:

Hardware and Web GUI reset showed different behaviour.

Solution:

The reset behaviour was lined up and corrected for both reset options. If user.ini is not present, all configuration files on all paths are deleted. If user.ini is present, only user.ini is deleted.

Wireless LED Turns Off Description:

Wireless LED stays OFF after running a template and rebooting.

Cannot Create PPTPTunnel in Windows XP

Description:

It is impossible to create a PPTP tunnel in Windows XP.

Solution:

The issue has been resolved and behaviour in Windows XP is now normal.

SpeedTouch™ RebootsOn Non-EnglishLanguage Pack

Description:

When running the embedded Easy Setup wizard on the SpeedTouch™ in a non-english language, the device reboots.

3.2 Solved Technical Issues in This Release

Overview The following issues were solved for the current release:

Line out of synch due toImpulsive Noise

Description:

A High CRC and FEC error on the SpeedTouch™585 and SpeedTouch™680, due to Impulsive Noise caused the line to go temporarily out of synch, which in turn caused the PPP connection to go down.

Solution:

The Impulsive Noise Protection was improved. Even when the line goes temporarily out of synch, the PPP connection does not go down.

Interoperabilityproblems with Cisco

and Adtran

Description:

There were interoperability problems with the Adtran TA-3000 and certain Cisco port cards.

Solution:

The issue has been resolved. Interoperability has been optimized.

Wizard problem Description:

In the german version, in the embedded Easy Setup wizard, the window in Home Network/Devices/Assign device game or application is too small and the device name is only visible with 4 digits.

Solution:

It is now possible to set the size when customizing the embedded Easy Setup wizard, to allow for more complex languages.

Performance issue Description:

A BER performance issue was reported.

Solution:


Double ACK messages Description:

Double ACK-messages were sent out, resulting in a loss of bandwidth.

PPP settings can be changed during session upstate using CWMP. Changes take effect after re-attach.

Telnet extension Description:

A telnet session can be opened on a configurable port, both to devices on the LAN and to other servers (telnet relay).

Timed Reboot Description:

Timed reboot has been added.

Wildcards Supported inthe Rule Syntax for

DHCP Relay

Description:

When entering a rule in the DHCP config (to later assign to DHCP relay), it is possible to filter on the VCI field. However, in previous releases, the syntax did not support the use of wildcards in the VCI identification. Only a full match was possible. In this release , this has been extended to include wildcard support.

Additional TFTP andDHCP features

Description:

Request for additional TFTP and DHCP features. These features were implemented.

Ping extension Description:

A long or hanging ping response can now be interrupted with CTRL+C.

Simlock Description:

A simlock feature has been added. If required, only user names with specific suffixes and/or prefixes can be set to be allowed.

DHCP Link-sensing Description:

DHCP Link-sensing has been added. This means that the PPP link will stay up even when lower layers are out of synch. In case of re-synch, the PPP link need not be renewed.

4 Known Technical Issues

4.1 Known Restrictions

Overview This chapter provides a listing of all caveats and restrictions found during extensive testing cycles. Next to a detailed description of each problem, where possible a user-feasible solution for the problem is provided. This work around will in most cases circumvent or solve the issues that arise by the problem.

Description

The SpeedTouch™ embedded Easy Setup wizard supports not more than five (residential) or ten (business) subsequent user windows during the SpeedTouch™ service template configuration procedure.

Workaround

None.

DSD Restriction Description

When Website filtering is activated (online filtering and/or URL white- or blacklisting), the maximum amount of simultaneous web-surfing TCP connections is around 20, depending on the type of connection.

Workaround

If you need more users, set Web Browsing Interception to either, automatic mode i.e. Web Browsing Interception will only be activated when the DSL or PPP is down, or disable it altogether (set to disabled)

As an alternative, DSD can be disabled via the SpeedTouch™ web GUI:

Debug commands On some platforms, using the debug commands may cause unexpected behaviour. Use these commands only when specifically approved by Thomson.

Step Action

1 Go to SpeedTouch > Configuration > Configure,

2 Select disabled or automatic for Web Browsing Interception.

4.2 Technical Issues

Overview The following issues are known for the current release:

Unreadable Charactersin Home Install Wizard

on MAC OS

Description:

On the Home Install Wizard in MAC OSX, accented characters are shown as garbage or not shown.

Workaround:

Avoid the use of these characters. The issue will be fixed in STHIW R2.0 for MAC.

Percentage Sign notAccepted in Passwords

and User Names

Description:

Percentage (%) sign not accepted in user names and passwords.

Workaround:

Do not use the percentage (%) in user names and passwords. Issue will be solved in next release.

Uptime Not CorrectlyDisplayed

Description:

The Uptime for the IPoA connection is not correctly displayed on the IP Internet details screen.

Workaround:

IPoA is a passive WAN interface type and its uptime has no real significance, since the line will go down only when manually brought down. For static IP addresses, uptime may be ignored. Uptime for dynamic IP addresses is correctly displayed.

Description:

On the start page of the Web interface GUI, the DSL icon wrongly shows a red cross. The cross disappears on subsequent pages.

Workaround:

None. Will be fixed in later release.

No Warning WhenLoading an Errored

Configuration

Description:

When loading an errored configuration, the system does not return a warning

Workaround:

None. Make sure that the configurations you are loading are correct.

Text Translation notShown in Web Interface

Description:

Some pages in the Web interface still appear untranslated when running the Web Interface.

Workaround:

Improvements are ongoing. Several parts have been fixed for this release.

Web BrowsingInterception Fails to

Appear

Description:

If the DSL line is out, the Web Browsing Interception page fails to appear when the DSD is set to “automatic” and website filtering does not work.

Solution:

Change DSD setting to “enabled”.

Broken backwardcompatibility betweenR5.4 and R6.1 DHCP

configuration

Description:

The configured order of requested options in the DHCP client is important because it determines the processing sequence in the DHCP client when the ack is received. As the order of options has changed in software release R6.1, unpredicted behavior can encounter when upgrading from software release R5.4 to R6.1.

Solution:

Reset your SpeedTouch™ to defaults and reconfigure.
