This is the beginning of a new fiscal year at EF&GA. Please welcome the new members to the Board of Directors; Neil Pisk, Norm Porst, Breen Emery, and past President Dave Burton. A hearty thank you to the outgoing Officers and Directors. We appreciate your service. Over the years I have heard the idea repeated that BOD meetings held on the first Thursday of every month are closed to those not on the Board. This couldn't be further from the truth. We do not operate in secret. Not only are they open to anyone, we fully encourage you to come and observe the proceedings. It's a great way to see first hand how your range is run. If you feel concerned by some rumor that you've heard, attending the BOD meeting each month is a great way to see exactly what goes on. Please remember, while we welcome you to observe the proceedings, this is when and where the BOD conducts the business of the Association. We will not tolerate people being disruptive. Right here on this front page is a complete list of the Board of Directors, and other staff. We work for you. I am encouraging all Board members to make themselves available to you. While I want these good folks to hear you out, please don't overwhelm them by making your problems theirs. If you have a great concern, complaint, suggestion, etc, come tell us in person at the monthly BOD meeting. You can do this two ways. Short and sweet during the guest comment time, or, if it is more in-depth, please contact our Recording Secretary, Geoff Orchin, and ask to be put on the agenda. In this coming year, we plan to get a final inspection on the Storage Shed, remodel the Trap Ramada, and at least one new trap pad. The progress continues! For all you stragglers out there, don't forget to get your membership renewal processed if it's late. We currently have a wait list due to us having reached our membership cap. Applications on the wait list will be processed, in order, beginning in August. Clerk Juli Everett is handling the flood of renewals with a smile. Be sure to thank her when you see her. Have fun. R a n g e m a s t e R s o u n d o f f

A reminder – Be careful out there. It is starting to warm up (hopefully) and Mr. Dia-mond Back (a rattle snake) will be coming out. I do not know of a sighting so far this year, but that can change in a heartbeat. I have posted at each range a poster from the State of California that details information regarding the snakes. Please take time to read.

I have a new section I would like to call “What the…”. These will be tales from the

strange side at the range. First up happened a couple of weeks ago and was reported as fol-lows. A members’ guest was shooting free hand, standing to shoot, on the 150 yard range. Good so far; but he was shooting from the yellow line.

Saturday, 21 May was the Annual EF&GA Picnic work day. Thirty-eight members worked

most of the day raking the trap fields, weed “whacking” and general clean-up. Seventeen of those that worked are Range Safety Officers’. With 1500 members, the turn out should have been bigger. As the numbers show, the Range Safety Offices’ at EF&GA carry a big load for the Association. A thank you to all that worked that day.

Some safety “rules” for Black Powder Shooters and some apply to smokeless powder shooters as well. The Don’ts of

muzzle loading: · Don’t prime the pan of a flint lock or cap a percussion firearm until it is pointed at the target or down range and

you are on the firing line on a hot range. Never prime or cap in a non-shooting area.· Don’t smoke while handling black powder. It could be the last time.· Don’t hurry, on a misfire, to examine the firearm until sufficient time has passed. Up to a minute to be safe. Keep

the muzzle pointed down range during this period of time.· Don’t pour powder directly from the flask or horn into a just fired barrel. Always use a powder measure.· Don’t keep OPEN black powder container(s) in the shooting area.· Don’t talk to a shooter when they are in process of shooting the target.· Don’t handle equipment of others without specific permission.· Don’t bend your body over the muzzle when ramming a bullet or round ball into a charged barrel.· Don’t pour powder into a barrel that has been oiled for storage. Clean the barrel first then snap a cap or two to

burn the oil out of the flash hole, then load for shooting.· Don’t get careless in any process of the muzzle loading procedures.· Don’t drink alcohol if you intend to shoot and don’t shoot if you have been drinking.· Don’t take any medications that may inhibit your ability to shoot (certain prescription drugs) and· Don’t shoot if you have taken any medications that may inhibit your ability to shoot (certain prescription medica

tions). There still seems to be some confusion regarding Short Range Pistol Practice (SRPP). SRPP takes place on Tuesday after-

noons, from 1:00 p.m. until closing, approximately. There must be an RSO dedicated to SRPP for it to take place and there must be a RSO to monitor the rest of the ranges at the same time. If only one RSO is on duty, SRPP will not take place that Tuesday and the pistol range will be open for casual shooting.

Range Safety Tip of the Month. When on the Pistol Range - Do not set targets at the 50 yard line during Sanctioned Trap

Shooting events. That would be Tuesday mornings, Wednesday evenings, Saturday evenings and any other time a sanc-tioned trap event is taking place. For sanctioned trap events other than Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, check the current months “Range Calendar” published within the EF&GA Newsletter.
