    Example: SAM P. LESTUDENT

Born October 19, 1994 in Hartford, Connecticut, I had anincurable case of Know-It-All Disease from day one. At the ageof two, I was correcting my much older brother who called asilo a barn. I could read and write by three. At four, I startedschool and loved every second of it. Everything was easy forme, and I expected life to stay that way. I was quiet in class, butI picked things up quickly. I was even recommended for asummer program for People to People World Leadership in thesummer after eighth grade, which I enjoyed participating in.Since entering high school, Ive learned that life isnt such abreeze. Just this year, Ive learned exactly how late some late

nights can be if you procrastinate. Not only that, I got my firstreport card B. Ive been humbled by my experiences, buttheyve taught me to work harder than ever.

    SAMPLE SLIDE: GIEP Goal-Self

    Advocacy

My second GIEP goal was to develop my selfadvocacy skills. I wanted to effectivelycommunicate and assert my interests.

I can at times be shy or hesitant to participate in

class. To assure that I am understanding thecurriculum, I need to ask more questions. I alsoneed to be able to communicate with teacherswhen if I am struggling on a certain topic. I feelthat I need to improve more on this goal. I feeluncomfortable when addressing teachers orasking for help. I always complete thingsindependently even if I do not understand theassignment.
