The easy, economical way tosafeguard yourself when workingwith electricity.PDL Elimit is specifically designed to minimise the riskof a fatal electric shock when working with electricityaround the home or on the building site. It is anelectronic sensing device which constantly monitors thebalance of current flow to ensure that, should even aminute leakage occur, the PDL Elimit will switch off thepower in less than the time of a single heartbeat. Thatcould mean the difference between life and death.

The PDL Elimit can save your life!The body is normally driven by minute electrical signals

which control muscles and heart. If an electrical current fromthe mains passes through the body, normal body functionwill be disrupted. The effect of this disruption, calledventricular fibrillation, depends on the severity of the shockand the length of time the person is subjected to it.

The PDL Elimit provides protection by switching the currentoff immediately. When electrical leakage to earth exceeds aslittle as 10mA (10 thousandths of one Amp) or 30mA(30 thousandths of one Amp), the PDL Elimit will switch offthe current within 30 milliseconds (30 thousandths of a

second). Thats less than the time it takes for a singleheartbeat, and could mean the difference between life anddeath. PDLs commitment to research and development hasensured that Elimit has been engineered to meet the latestinternational standards in RCD technology.

In the workshop and outdoors, many factors, such asdampness, faulty wiring, frayed cords and other hazards, cancontribute to a potentially lethal situation when using powertools and extension leads, electric barbeques, electriclawnmowers, temporary party lighting, pool vacuums, filters,spas, pool lights and any other outdoor electrical equipment.PDL Elimit offers personal protection against electrocutionfrom live to earth faults.Theres no doubt that, from time to time, we are allsubconsciously careless around electricity. PDL Elimit is aninsurance against this. However, it must be pointed out that

RCD devices do not protect against all causes of electricshock such as those caused by contracting both Live andNeutral of the electrical circuit its use should not be takenas a substitute for safe electrical practices or for electricalmaintenance.

When properly connected, an electrical current flows through thelive wire (fig.1) on its way to the appliance and returns via theneutral wire (fig.2).

If, for some reason, the current leaks (through dampness, frayedwire, faulty connection etc.), it wil l take the most direct path to earth often through a persons body. If that power is not cut off instantly,there is a strong possibility that person will die.

The path taken by the current also contributes to the shocksseverity. A shock which flows from the hand through the arms andchest will affect both breathing and heartbeat.

The time that a person is exposed to the shock is the greatest factorin the severity of the accident. A PDL Powerguard cuts off the powerin 30 thousandths of a second thats less than the time of asingle heartbeat!

A leakage as little as 10mA (10 thousandths of one Amp) or 30mA(30 thousandths of one Amp) is sufficient to trip the PDL Powerguardand cut off the power to the appliance thats a minute amount ofcurrent when you consider that many appliances use as much as10 Amps.

The design and manufacture of products by PDLIndustries has always been backed by third partytesting and development facilities.

PDL uses Parkside Laboratories, an independent IANZ-registered electrical laboratory, for its product testingand IANZ-endorsed test reports to ensure internationalproduct acceptance.

Parkside Laboratories offers testing, calibration andcertification services in the fields of electrical, EMC,environmental, calibration and metrology, with testprocedures performed in accordance with ISO Guide25 1990 and ISO 9002 1987. Their in-house QualityManagement System meets International AccreditationNew Zealand (formerly known as TELARC) standards,ensuring that all procedures meet or exceed therequirements of the New Zealand Code of LaboratoryManagement Practice and through their laboratory inMelbourne, Australia the National Association of

Testing Authorities (NATA).

An independent International Accreditation New Zealand registered electrical laboratory is used for product testing to ensure compliance to international standards and product quality.

INTERNATIONAL TESTING SYSTEMS

The installation of a new, high-power short circuit testfacility at the Melbourne lab has enabled ParksideLaboratories to extend the range of NATA accreditedtest facilities on offer to industry. The new test centre isthe only privately funded facility of its type in Australia.

As an International Accreditation New Zealandregistered laboratory, Parkside Laboratories testresults are recognised and accepted by otheraccreditation authorities in the following countries:
