PASTOR’S MESSAGE 3 PASTOR’S MESSAGE 3

Dear brothers and sisters Today we see in the Gospel that our Lord is a teacher with authority. "All were amazed and asked one another: 'What is this?'" Saint Jerome explains that the authority of our Lord is different than the authority of the prophets and the apostles. He says: Let us look at the Acts of the Apostles and the signs given by the first prophets. What did Phar-aoh's magicians say when confronted by Moses' marvelous deeds? "This is the finger of God" (Ex 8:15). It was Moses who carried them out but it was the power of another they recognized. Later on the apostles performed further marvels: "In the name of Jesus Christ, rise and walk!" (Acts 3:6); "Paul... said to the spirit: 'I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of this woman'" (Acts 16:18). Jesus' name is always used. Here, however, what does He himself say? "Come out of this man" without any further precision. It is in His own name that he orders the spirit to come out. He gives the command to the unclean spirits by His own authority, referring to no one else. He himself gives the order; He does not speak in another's name but by His own authority. The authority of the Lord over the devil is good news for us. Because as we fight daily against the enemies of our souls, the Devil, the spirit of the World and the flesh, we are ascertained that our Lord has the power and authority over them. That he has already triumphed. This fact awakens in us a great spirit of hope and a great generosity in our daily spiritual combat. Let us continue our pilgrimage to heaven trusting in the authority of our Lord. And let us invoke His most sacred Name when we see ourselves weak or tired. He is the Lord. God bless you all. Fr Javier Ibarra

Pro Life Take up God’s offer …. For God, we are not numbers, we are … the most im-portant thing to Him; even if we are

sinners, we are what is closest to His heart. … let us be enveloped in the mercy of God; let us trust in His pa-tience, which always gives us more time. Let us find the courage to allow ourselves to be loved by Him and to encounter His mercy in the sacraments. We will feel His wonderful tenderness, we will feel His embrace, and we too will become more capable of mercy, patience, for-giveness and love.
