Do your homework• Determine use

– Reading– Internet browsing– Apps– Listening– Downloading books– Creating content


Purchasing• Buy for YOUR situation and ease of use!• Work with whomever is in charge of

ordering in your school• Keep a paper trail

• Warning…..buying online is w-a-y too easy….keep track of your budget

• Turn off purchasing or password protect from your ereader


Set up

• Spread sheet for serial numbers• Nook record keeping• Label all components• Etch ownership• Register with SRO or police dept. • Catalog


Cataloging

• Circulation notes…what items are, special considerations


• Public notes….add titles• Staff notes …serial number


Plan

• Show Availability

• Forms

• Check out


Permissions• Signed forms on file

– Parent guardian is aware– AUP reminder– Form used for check outs


• Have a strategy for when there are no devices available or kids will drive

you crazy!!


Circulate• 2 weeks to coincide with Montana Library2Go

downloads– Overdrive available on library laptop if they place the hold for a title

• No renewals• No holds• Courtesy notes sent the day before nook due• Request charged when returned• Return by handing to a human – name not

cleared until checked by librarian


Maintain

• Check charge• Wipe with disinfectant• Periodically delete extraneous wi-fi locations• Check for bookshelves or other non-library

changes


Privacy considerations• Maintain patron privacy by setting to cover page• Uncheck last page saved to web• No one can tell who has the nook checked out,

or what they are reading unless they have access to circulation system or paper permission slips AND the device before it is checked back in


Storage

• Shelves or bins for horizontal access• Keep with box and cord• Store by group for easy visual count

• Create and upload a pdf• Convert to a word doc to an .epub file
