What is a “Hold”?• A HOLD is an administrative block that prevents students from

registering for classes and/or accessing their student records.• Holds cause negative consequences for your immigration status.

– Example: Holds prevent you from getting a travel signature on your I-20/DS-2019 or a letter of good standing.

• To remove holds, students must contact the department that placed the hold (the “originator”). – Example: Student Health Services, Student Accounting,

Immigration, International Admissions • The Global Education Office CANNOT remove holds from other

departments.
