What is a School-Parent Compact?

A School-Parent Compact for Achievement is an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together. It explains how parents and teachers will work together to make sure all our students reach grade-level standards.

Effective Compacts:

» Link to goals of the school improvement plan

» Focus on student learning skills

» Describe how teachers will help students develop skills using high-quality instruction

» Share specific strategies parents can use at home

» Explain how teachers and parents will communicate about student progress

» Describe opportunities for parents to volunteer, observe, and participate in the classroom

How was the Compact Developed?

The parents, students and staff of Liberty Elementary School partnered together to develop this school-parent compact for achievement. Teachers suggested home learning strategies, parents added ideas to make them more specific, and students told us what would help them learn. Parents are encouraged to attend annual revision meetings each year in the spring to review the compact and make changes based on student needs and school improvement goals. Parents are also encouraged to participate in the annual Title I Survey that is also used as a tool to collect parent feedback regarding the current Title I programs and policies.

Building Partnerships

LES will host events to build parent capacity for family engagement and support partnerships among the school, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement. Workshops are offered at times requested from parent input. Events are offered at various times and advertised in multiple formats to reach all families. Event materials and web links will be posted on the school website. Specific and times will be posted on the school web site and sent home with your child.

LES Goals for 2019 - 2020

In the school year 2019-2020, students performing at grade level average in Reading and Math will increase by 3% from the winter to spring testing windows as measured by Measure of Academic Progress assessment (MAP).

In Third Grade our school will focus on reading fluency and comprehension as well as problem solving with addition and subtraction, and learning multiplication facts.

Parents’ Responsibilities

Liberty Elementary Parents gave input to develop ideas about how families can support students’ success in Reading and Math.

· Families will use provided resources to practice reading for comprehension at home. Parents will listen to their child read and ask questions about the text.

· Families will use provided resources to practice problem solving and multiplication facts at home.

· Families may visit the school resource room for additional items for reading and math practice at home

LES is committed to frequent two-way communication with families about student learning. We will communicate in the following ways:

LCSS Goals for 2019 – 2020

The Board of Education sets a goal for the entire district. The district goal for 2019 - 2020 are:

The percentage of students scoring at Developing Learner or above on the Georgia Milestones (GMAS) English Language Arts End of Grade Assessment will increase by three percentage points.

Parent Teacher Conferences/Observations

LES will have designated Parent Teacher Conference days in October and February. Please sign up with your child’s teacher. Conferences may be scheduled with teachers by request. Observations are scheduled with Ms. Offringa, our Counselor. Please call (912) 884-3326.

LES Student’s Responsibilities

· Students will read at home and practice comprehension strategies at home

· Students will practice addition, subtraction and multiplication facts at home

· Students will give parents newsletters with practice ideas, resources and information about the school resource room

The Teacher’s and School’s Responsibilities

The student’s teacher(s) will provide a monthly home connection newsletter that features games, web resources, and other activities, focusing on reading strategies introduced in class, that families can use for practice at home.

The student’s teacher(s) will provide targeted activities and specific resources for increasing addition and subtraction problem solving skills, which families can practice at home.

The Title I Resource room will be supplied with reading and math resources for families to sign out to use for at home practice.
