Content Strategies Doug: You’ve been very successful, and I’m curious about what your favorite content

creation strategies are in your own business.

!Steve: Well, I mean look, content creation, I think, is a bit of an oxymoron, right?

Because reality for me is that it’s never about creating content, so much as it’s about simply providing solutions to other peoples’ problems.

And so from my perspective, it’s really just simply a matter of being very open, being

very aware to your surroundings, to the people you interact with, and to those who

really, for whatever reason, gravitate towards you because they feel as though you

have something that can help them in one way or another.

! So for me, content creation is always based on being the solution to someone else’s

problem.

!People learn in different ways, and people consume content in different ways, so it’s

my responsibility to make sure that I’m providing something that is auditory for

those who prefer to listen, that is tangible in terms of book form for those who

prefer to hold and consume, or video or live event, or whatever it might be.

! So it simply is a function of understanding who you’re serving and making sure

you’re serving them in the way that meets them where they are.

!Doug: It’s a very good point that you said because as I was thinking about it, I’ve never

woke up and said, “I need some content today. Where will I find my content?”

!Listeners have heard me tell this story before, but the head light went out on my car,

and I went on YouTube to see, “How do you put a headlight in on a Hyundai

Sonata?”

!I wasn’t looking for content. I was looking for like you said, I was looking for a solution to a problem that I had.

!Steve: Yeah. Absolutely. I think that’s one of the reasons why the search engines have

really become the dominant tool online now. When I say “search engines,” do you,
