IntroductionDoug: Hello, and welcome back to the Coachzing Show. This is Doug Foresta, and this is a
show that helps you, coaches, therapists, speakers, and authors to work less, earn
more, and help more people, through creative content marketing, and I have
someone with me today, that I know you will get a lot out of this.
Even if you’re not a therapist, I really do believe that you’ll get a lot out of listening to this episode, but my guess is Casey Truffo, from BeAWealthyTherapist.Net, and Casey, I’ll just say a little bit about here, and then I’ll bring her on.
One of the things that we’ve talked about a lot on this show is the power of
authenticity and being yourself, and that’s one of the things I really love about her
work.
I’ve been following her for sometime myself, as you know I’m a therapist, and I really
think that Casey is someone that walk’s the talk of being authentic. So, like I said, I

Casey: Oh Doug, I’m so excited to be here, and thank you for all you do for the community.
I really want to give you a big high-five.
Doug: Oh, thank you. I really appreciate it. Just to start off to say this, that there’s this very,
I feel, dysfunctional belief that sometimes helping professionals have about that it’s
wrong to make money helping people, which is extremely, I think, dysfunctional,
and it doesn’t serve anyone.
Casey: Well, it’s interesting because that’s a very valid point, and I think what happens is
that we therapists, and coaches too, we are a healing professional. We don’t think
of ourselves as necessarily doing it in a way to get paid for, so that’s one reason.
Another thing is our mentors and our history has come up from people who were not trying to making businesses out of being a therapist.
There’s some really interesting ways that therapy came about. When we had
psychoanalytic therapy, the rich people came and came a lot.
And then the ruling event of the 70s was the Vietnam War, and one of the really
values that came out of that was business is bad. So the therapists that came out of
the 70s and 80s, they were not really wanting to make a business and charge money.

And then in the 80s came managed care, and we all know about that. And so now, that came through the 80’s and the 90’s, and now we’re in this sort of nebulous place of, in the United States anyway, “Where is healthcare going? What’s happening?”
