EAGLE NEWS – November 18, 2016 NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL The NJSIAA Gr. II South SemiFinal Football playoff game will be tonight starting 7pm at West Deptford High School. Our Eagles will take on the Collingswood Panthers for a chance to play in the State Championship game at Rowan University. Reminder…..There is a ½ day of school on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. School is closed for Thanksgiving Weekend Thursday, November 24 th and Friday, November 25 th . If there is any way that we can help you support the education of our students, please let us know. On behalf of the administration and staff, please have a happy and safe Thanksgiving! ‐‐Dr. Gismondi IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT: Seniors are reminded to complete their college applications and to update their Naviance accounts to indicate where they need transcripts sent. Remember, transcripts cannot be sent to colleges unless you have a signed transcript release form on file AND you request the transcript via Naviance. Seniors who have been active in school and community service should consider applying for the HoffmanDi Muzio Gifts of the Heart scholarship. Information is available on Naviance. NOTES FROM THE PRINCIPAL 

The NJSIAA Gr. II South Semi‐Final Football playoff game will be tonight starting 7pm at West Deptford 

High School. Our Eagles will take on the Collingswood Panthers for a chance to play in the State 

Championship game at Rowan University. 

Reminder…..There is a ½ day of school on Wednesday, November 23, 2016.  School is closed for

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE GUIDANCE DEPARTMENT: 

Seniors are reminded to complete their college applications and to update their Naviance accounts to indicate where they need transcripts sent.  

Remember, transcripts cannot be sent to colleges unless you have a signed transcript release form on file AND you request the transcript via Naviance.

If you are able to contribute by purchasing one of these gifts, it would be most appreciated.  The front of each paper ornament contains a “wish list item” and the back has information on returning the gift item to Guidance by December 5th.  Please contact the Guidance Office with any questions.

DECA NEWS: 

DECA NEEDS YOUR HELP!!! 

DECA will be raising money for the New Eyes charity in homerooms November 14 through November 18. New 

Eyes is a charity that purchases new prescription eyeglasses for residents of the US in need and gives out used 

glasses to those in need in developing countries. The organization is non‐profit and benefits both children and 

adults who would not be able to get glasses on their own.  

Donations can be given for homeroom collections OR checks can be made out to WDHS DECA and given to 

Mrs. Dupont in Room 10 and the DECA club. Any size donation is greatly appreciated! Thank you! 

  

KEY CLUB NEWS: 

On Thursday November 17th, Key Club members visited Brightview Assisted Living in Woodbury.  Residents and Key Clubbers played Italian Trivia Bingo and visited with the patients in the Alzheimer’s and Dementia unit. Special thanks to Key Club Editor Juliana Stauffer and Member Vinnie Pierce for making up the Italian themed Bingo games and cards. The following students shared their time with the elderly:  Christopher Watts,

 The Operation Blessing Food Drive has begun!  Please help the WDHS Key Club continue their annual tradition of providing holiday food baskets to over 100 local families. Most needed items are peanut butter, jelly, stuffing, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables, fruit, soup and stews, pasta, rice, dessert mixes, and pasta sauces.  You can drop off your donations in the Main Lobby at WDHS now through December 8th. Key Club members will be conducting neighborhood food drives in support of Operation Blessing. If you get a flier in your mailbox saying that a student is collecting food, please consider putting together a donation for them.  If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Yeager, Key Club Advisor.  Thank you for your generosity.   Every month WDHS Key Club recognizes a club member who has gone above and beyond in their service to others. Congratulations to Key Club Member of the Month for September, Dante Paterna and for October, Lori‐Ann Johnson!  Keep leading by example and making caring your way of life. 

Volunteer Opportunity: Volunteers are needed every Saturday from 9‐11 AM at Colonial Manor food pantry located at 56 Elberne Street.  If you or your student are interested in volunteering, contact Mrs. Yeager.   

 GRAPHIC ARTS NEWS: 

 Graphic Design 2 students are participating in a pizza box design competition sponsored by Pats Select Pizza/ Grill. Pats will generously give the winning students and programs monetary prizes and print 10,000 pizza boxes with the winning design!    

   RENAISSANCE CLUB NEWS:   The Renaissance Club will be selling Chick‐Fil‐a sandwiches after school EVERY Wednesday! Sandwiches are $4! All proceeds go to the Renaissance Club whose goal is to build school leadership through academic achievement and school spirit.            SAVE THE DATE! The Renaissance Club is hosting their first Car and Truck Show! It will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017. If you are interested in showing a car or truck, or if you are interested in being a vendor at our Car and Truck Show please fill out one of the attached forms and send them in to the attention of either Mrs. Falcone or Mrs. Pence. All spots (car/truck as well as vendors) are $15. The Renaissance Club appreciates your ongoing support! We hope to see everyone there!

The West Deptford High School NHS is sponsoring Operation Blessing on Saturday, December 10th.  Operation Blessing has become a district and community‐wide initiative that will provide Christmas assistance to over 100 West Deptford school district families in need.  Operation Blessing is hosted by the WDHS NHS but it would be impossible without the support from the entire WD community.  We are in need of non‐perishable food items, grocery store gift cards in $10 values, new gifts for children aged 0‐12, and $20‐$25 gift cards for teenage students.  We also collect new blankets, warm winter items, and clothing (especially coats, shoes, and underwear).  Monetary donations can also be made.  Checks should be made payable to WDHS.   We are collecting items until December 5th.  We appreciate your generous support!    Please email Jody Davis or Jennifer Stuart if you have questions. [email protected] [email protected]

THE ANNUAL UNDERWEAR COMPETITION HAS BEGUN! Donations of new packages of underwear for any age and gender will be accepted through Monday, December 5th. The donations will be distributed at Operation Blessing. The class which brings in the most underwear will be presented with the prestigious Underwear Trophy at the winter pep rally – let’s see if the Class of 2018 gets to retain their title, or another class will take it from them!
